Re: To decide between these 4 Spydercos..

If you don’t have a Millie or Caribbean, those are must haves for any Spydienut, IMO.

But K390 in the Endura would tip my personal preference in that direction if you had to choose just one.

Re: Native Chief first and ongoing impressions thread

20210403_110041.jpg Thanks for that. :) The balance point seems about the same as my G10 REX Chief, surprisingly - maybe just a smidge forward. Mine has a Ti clip though which also might have a very slight effect. I often favour the forward choil hold, which accounts for my balance point preference.

Re: Caly 3.5 HAP40 sprint run?

Yes, I was hoping this would come out after the HAP40 Caly 3. I guess a lot of planned models don’t make it into production if the early releases in a particular steel don’t sell so well. The added premium for Seki models in G10, due to Spyderco having to ship US G10 to Japan, and possible issues wi...

Cool stuff, my friend, thanks for sharing this.

Now we can think on another variation to the perennial thread idea: ‘What 8 Spydies would you EDC?’. :D :spyder:

Re: Native Chief first and ongoing impressions thread

Can anyone who has both a G10 model and the S90V CF model confirm if the balance point on the CF version is shifted forward in any noticeable way. I was surprised how much lighter and more balanced the CF scales made my 52100 CE PM2 feel over my G10 and customised micarta scaled PM2s. I cant speak ...

Wow, JD - you actually bought a new Spydie?! :p :D :)

It does sound like a great model and steel though. I’ll be following your reports on it with interest.

Could this be a new Golden Age? :p :) :spyder:

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Yep! Been hunting one for awhile. I had the recent Calypso Jr Sprint run, but sold it for a few reasons (tad small, pinned pivot). I liked how the Super Blue steel responded in sharpening - as you say, not the king of wear resistance but sooo easy to bring back. I also picked up a SB Endura (before...

I'm a tee shirt and jeans, black fitted hat kind of guy...very rare that I don't wear a hat, but thought that was a nice photo of us both looking fancy haha! I've always been tempted to start a members photo thread, because I'd love to put a face to all the names of members I talk to regularly! But...

Re: First Spyderco - S30v or SPY27?

SPY27 would be my choice, but that’s just me.

I don’t think you’d be disappointed with Spyderco’s S30V, if you prefer that knife.

Re: Blade Play

For reference, I haven’t had side to side play in any of my compression lock knives. Something you may want to consider is the phospher bronze washers can sometimes be burred or kinked at the edges. This is something I’ve experienced with Seki knives, but I don’t think I’ve seen it in a Golden made ...

Re: Sal, Anyone? Spyderco Super Blue steel hardness

Hey Connor, Nice score on that Caly - that’s long been one of my grail Spydies. I love seeing Chumango’s well used SB Caly, and look forward to seeing the development of yours over time. I’ve been curious about the same thing, and based on the same info you found, I guessed they’d be targetti...

Re: Ok received my caly 3.5. Some issues though

If it worries you just use some small pieces of sandpaper to smooth and clean off those surfaces. 800 to 1200 grit would do it. ZDP189 is a great steel in my opinion and the Caly 3.5 is a superb, underrated model. I really like the fine edge it takes and it holds it very well. Patience, correct abra...

Re: UF Benchstone Questions

To place the UF stone in context, my current usual progression for my initial thinning out of a Spyderco knife goes like this. Atoma diamond plate sequence at 140, 400, 600 and 1200 grit. I’d say about 85% of the total sharpening time is stock removal and setting the bevel cleanly with the 140 grit ...

Re: Native Chief first and ongoing impressions thread

Ok, so after trying unsuccessfully to acquire a few of the previous REX45 models, my friend Enactive kindly snagged a REX Chief for me and shipped it over the Pacific to Australia. Thanks heaps for that mate, I’m really liking this knife and steel! :) First impressions: Initially, I wasn’t th...

Re: Native Chief first and ongoing impressions thread

Has anyone tried contouring the edges of the scales? I'd like to try but there really isn't much clearance around the body screws. Yes, I masked up and used a progression of sandpaper squares held in my hand, and then cleaned up the radiusing with larger pieces of sandpaper on a firm mousepad. Blew...
