I am another who likes redundant systems... I generally carry 3-4 different ways to start a fire - lighter or two, matches (in waterproof case), ferro rod; as well as 1-2 types of tinder. The Blastmatch works great, although I generally carry a Spark-lite instead as they are more compact and cheaper...

It is about as likely as a unicorn, but I have a hankering for an Orange M4 Para.

Or an Orange M4 Yojimbo.

As long as I'm fantasizing, how about an Orange M4 Ocelot sans pugs? Now that would be the Cat's Meow!

Try carrying IWB at the 4 o'clock position (or about 8:00 for lefties) - just behind the hip bone.

I never feel the tang, and it might help you appreciate the amount of knife left exposed by the clip....

I also have both. The D2 Para sees almost constant carry while the Caly III sees almost none. This is just personal preference as they are both great knives. And, while I have a great deal of respect for The Deacon and am always learning from his posts, we will continue to disagree on the 'handednes...

Interesting. I always figured the tanto was a fairly worthless blade shape for my uses, with my preference being either a drop-point or a wharnie. Well, last year I got a too-good-to-pass-up deal on a small folding tanto... come to discover, at least in a small blade, it seems to share some positive...

I have a Galley V sitting in a box in my basement; eventually it will be mounted over the bench in my shop. (First I have to build a shop.)

In the meantime, the 'teardrop' ProFiles, while a bit shorter, do a fine job and are nice to have in the pack.

Good to see you back, JD.

I don't have a camera either, but I can tell you the size difference is significant.

The blade of the Para, while not much longer, is broader than the mini-grip's; the handle is almost an inch longer as well as broader.

A better comparison would be the full-size Grip and the Para.

Tony, I dropped a Terralux TLE-6 into a 4D Mag, while it won't compare to one of the more expensive 'superlights' it is much brighter than before and doesn't eat near as many batteries. The Mag LED's work, but I don't think their performance is as good as the Terralux (for about the same $$). There ...

carrying an opener around makes you feel like you have a problem. Huh... having been forced to use a variety of 'field expedient' openers in my youth, I generally have two or three bottle openers on me at any given time these days. And while I like the CRKT Dogfish, I think it is called an 'Emerson...

Great thread--I can't believe I have never tried guava paste before!

But the best news is I found a local producer who sells honey just down the road from me... not only super with PB (on RYE bread, people) but it may also help alleviate seasonal allergies.

Truly Good & Good for you!

Oddly enough, an aquaintance of mine took some pictures of a Canada goose pair nesting in a cottonwood last week... although this is not without precedent. Lewis & Clark reported Canada geese nesting in trees along the Missouri River in NW North Dakota in 1805--apparently to avoid wolf predation...

I am in for new scales on the Lava, G10 or FRN... I'd prefer if the backlock stays, but that's just me. On the other hand, what would be the point of H1 over VG-10??? Aside from rust-resistance... and I have yet to see any corrosion on my VG-10 blades (probably a moot point if production moves to Ch...

the clips on the D4's are prone to bending easy. I have carried D/E4's pretty extensively since they were released, but this has not been my experience -- yes, they will bend if enough force is applied, but that seems preferable to breaking the clip or, worse yet, breaking/tearing what they got cau...

This isn't what you asked, but my advice would be to get a safety razor--they provide a close shave without the time or expense of a straight razor, while not tearing up your face like a cartridge shaver (3 blades and a 'comfort strip' my @$$). Electric razors did a fine job until I hit puberty, at ...

Well, we all have our opinions on what should be kept, what should be cut, and what changes need to be made to keep Spyderco solvent, but we need to keep a few things in mind: First, no more talk of dropping the Cento's--this is nonsense and must stop. Second, low-ride clips, Yojimbos, FRN, FFG and ...

I have had the D2 version in my pocket for about two weeks now. I wash it with hot water once or twice a day, dry it well but have yet to oil it...
