Opinions Wanted: Top 5 Best Spydercos

I'm curious, what do you consider to be the top 5 Spyderco knives? Based on your own use and preferences. If you feel like going the extra mile... I know some of you really go nuts for the oddball Spydies. Maybe for the weird ones, you could explain why? Do you prefer serrated, partial, or non? Why?...

Re: I never want to hear about "chippy" steel ever again

I bought a Manix 2 back in 2013. That was shortly after Spyderco switched from 154CM to S30V, back when the Manix 2 came standard with a hollow grind. The factory edge chipped on cardboard. No staples, no contact with anything but cardboard. It took a few sharpenings before that issue went away. May...

Re: I never want to hear about "chippy" steel ever again

Not sure why the need to cut the cardboard at all? Just slice the tape at the join like everyone else does. My keys do this job. I cut lots of cardboard boxes(large ones) into small pieces for fire starting in our woodstove, it's free tinder. Large pieces could be used, but that's a waste and tends...

Re: Hello, why do you guys like Spyderco?

I like the pure functionality of their knives, the ergonomics, and believe it or not, I love the looks. Spyderco does have a reputation for making ugly knives, but I enjoy their looks. Also, the company listens and helps it's consumers, in ways that are usually only seen in brand new companies, not ...

Re: I never want to hear about "chippy" steel ever again

One man’s chippy steel is another man’s high hardness true love. Good point, but I don't think that high hardness necessarily correlates with chippyness. A lot of time the harder a steel gets the greater it's edge stability gets. Who wants a soft steel that rolls easily? I think maximizing resistan...

Re: Why is having the blade drop closed such a big deal?

I like having the ability to quickly open my knife with one hand and quickly close with one hand. When cutting things that can't be set down right away, having a blade that drops shut is a very important feature. Or the scenarios where I need both hands free as soon as possible, after making the cut...

Re: New member here, just wondering...

Welcome Now in regards to a button compression lock on the Paramilitary 2, i feel the locking /unlocking system now being used on the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 is the best system that it can be. It's just so simple for me to use my finger to hold it, and with a small snap of my wrist have it safely c...

Re: New member here, just wondering...

Hi Albatross, Welcome tyo our forum and thanx for the kind words. The button release was part of the original patent. There are some concerns. We have one coming out soon that was in the original design by a collaboration design. We'll see how that one goes. On the scales, it's really better for us...

New member here, just wondering...

New member, longtime lurker here. Hello everyone! I have 2 questions for Sal, and would also like to know if anyone else is interested in the same things, or if I'm the only one. First, will we ever see a button compression lock on the Paramilitary 2, Para 3, etc.? Ergonomically speaking, it would b...
