Re: Recommendations for a European traditionalist

In my limited experience Austrians like the endura and chaparral. I seriously wonder what the background of this statement is and what distinguishes Austrian preferences for pocket knives from other nations? Maybe I'm a little too superficial, because after almost 20 years here in the forums and es...

Re: Forum Update/Maintenance & Move - PLEASE READ

Glad it's back up and for the improvements. The "50 shades of grey" color palette makes it harder for me to read though.

Re: The Astute

The Astute is a fantastic design and a solid user even with its slim profile. I would like to see it with upgraded materials, maybe S35VN or M4 like the Tenacious. Also agree on more collaborations with Mr. Szakony; his design style works well with Spyderco's. Nice Hungarian. I like the matte look....

Re: The Astute

I really like the design. Pretty sure the designer is Gábor Szakony who did the Hungarian.

I would love to see more collaborations with him in the future, maybe with slightly better materials (not there's anything wrong with an inexpensive knife).

Re: How about... a saber grind PM2

I'm all for different shapes and grinds but I'm not a fan of the exclusive blade shape thing.

Cutlery Shoppe doesn't even have the wharnie pm2 page up anymore (and they usually leave them up for exclusives they plan on running again).

Re: Native Chief Lightweight!!!

I’m getting the idea a lot of people, like me, are waiting for the SPY27…. Could this be a wake up call for Eric to order more SPY27? 😄 I am also waiting for the spy27. Nothing wrong with bd1n, but there are several upcoming models I want and don't want to blow the whole knife budget on chiefs. Alt...

Re: Recommendations for a European traditionalist

In my limited experience Austrians like the endura and chaparral. (You will meet our resident Austrian, Wartstein, presently I'm sure). You can't really go wrong with any of the models you mentioned. The native and para military families are available in different sizes and steels, although as a lef...

Re: Any recommendations?

Perhaps you would like the upcoming Lil native lightweight when it comes out. It will be lighter and has a slightly thinner blade than the regular Lil native and the rock solid golden back lock. If you're okay with a slip joint there are many good suggestions. The ukpk or the urban would be my recom...

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2024 Report

I'll reserve judgement until I've had one in hand, but 1mm stock on the charisma might be too thin for me. Never thought I'd say that about a production knife. The z-cut blade is already very flexible and at 1.3mm it's 30% thicker than the charisma.

Re: Cricket Lightweight

I've never liked metal handled knives. They look pretty, but I find them cold, heavy and slippery. Even so, I've thought about picking up a cricket several times because the design is intriguing. That small reverse S looks like it would pack a lot of cutting power in a small package. I also like the...

Re: AI art knows Spyderco

If the hollow grind on that second one was real it would meet in the middle long before the edge (based on the apparent stock thickness at the spydie hole).

AI seems pretty heavy on the A and light on the I so far.

Re: Q Ball fix

Is the Q Ball opening the same, better, or worse than a Dodo? I've never handled them at the save time, but I think the dodo has a more generously sized bevel/opening than the qball that allows for easier access to the ball bearing but I may be misremembering. Anyone who owns both care to chime in?

Hi Jmj,

K04SBL only.

sal
Is the edge on the blue handled K04SBL different than the K04SBK black handled with serrated edge? If so, how? I might be tempted to buy one of each to compare.

Re: Sharpening my Spydercos. A simple question...

Sharpen to a polished edge, then apply a coarse microbevel? I've been doing that for years with my K2 (~10dps main bevel, ~15dps micro). I've tested a ton of different kinds of edges on it, and that's the one that both cuts and looks best (subjective, of course) and lasts longest. Exactly what I wa...

it appears that the opsfocus discount applies to the normal msrp and not the sale price. bummer. i was looking at snagging a few i've been thinking about.

Re: Crazy Good Deals Part 2!!

This is only interesting for those with opfocus, but SFO has some sales going on. The zoomer is $420 ($210 with op discount). I don't have much use for this kind of knife but I'm still tempted at that price. They have a few others on sale also. The g10 maxamet sage 1 for $304 ($152) is a screaming d...

Re: Real or Fake PM2?

Welcome! I don't see any obvious indications of a fake (I am also not an expert) but it definitely looks like it had a sharpening misadventure, they don't come from the factory with a recurve. Yablanowitz is probably right about some fairly serious edge repair in it's past. For what it's worth, I th...

Yeah I vaguely remember having to setup IDME two or three times (only once with Spyderco). It's a slight inconvenience but worth it. Kristi will get you sorted.

Re: Native Chief Lightweight!!!

I'm still patiently awaiting the spy27, but the full SE is intriguing. Quick question for those that have a standard chief and the uncoated bd1n lw: The chief salt lw pictures look like the standard(s30v/g10) satin finish, but the bd1n and the spy27 pics look different, more stonewashed. Not quite l...
