Re: How bout a Yo Min bo? Smaller Yojimbo
Colour me hopeful for a return of both the blue scales and the longer handle:blade ratio/pointy profile like the original. The Smurf killer may not be a better knife than the Yo2, but it's a real looker.

Re: Economic Trends in the Secondary Knife Market???
My (purely amateur) chip-in would be that the whole frame of the economic dynamics has shifted because of the flexibility of taste due to social media as a shaping influence. E.g.: Tracking prices on one knife will never get you an accurate picture of the larger market; you'd need to correlate with ...

Re: Combo Comp/Linerlock
..... The compression lock allows the user to move their fingers away from the path of the closing blade, removing the risk of the blade closing on their fingers. This is innately impossible with a liner lock and I cant think a reason to re-introduce that risk to a compression lock. ... I respect t...

I'd love a premium decal made big enough for these types of cases, but paying extra markup on a case that's already expensive is not for me.

Uh, who signed off on these designs? They look 20 years old already. Guess that’s the brand aesthetic they’re going for. Yeah, they really need to put a hologram sticker on there so the cool kids will buy them... [/Sarcasm] [I don't wear ballcaps and don't understand how so many people can have so ...

Re: Which Carbon Fiber Knife to buy?
The most unique CF IMO is on the Caly3/3.5 with laminated ZDP-189 and (I think?) Hap-40 bladesteel. Out of stock most places, but you can find them on Ebay for reasonable prices. The handle's not slick and shiny like the stereotypical polished CF, but it's not a pocket-destroyer like the peel-ply te...

Re: CBSA Crazy Eh, Ohhh Canada
As unimpressed as I am with CBSA, I like to believe those people in uniform serve at out boarder and deserve the same respect as Police and Firefighters. It must be a little frustrating for them having to enforce BS rules. Personally, I would no risk my career to steel a $100 knife, or anything for...

Re: Can we talk about Amazon?
I'm kind of repeating what other have already said, but it's important to note, the bad experiences with Amazon have little to do with Amazon's policies in particular. You're more likely to get a swapped or otherwise returned product from Amazon than a smaller seller, but that's just because of the ...

[edit: beaten already by quicker responses. :winking-tongue ] As noted by the others above above, solubility does not require melting the diamond, it happens readily at grinding temperatures. Salute to Yegor. Shame on that "collector". Out of my price range and a little Macabre for my taste, curious why they Put a spyderco link To verify the story  Ivan's wall-of-text rendition of the story does kind of convince me it's authentic more than the photos of the bear, TBH.

Re: It would be really cool if Spyderco could switch from 8Cr13MoV for budget blades to 14C28N
I think Spyderco could switch to 14c28n if they wanted to. 14c28n is clearly the best all around budget steel, and any price increase would almost surely pale in comparison to the increase in performance we would see. I think you have an inflated perception of this "performance" increase....

Re: It would be really cool if Spyderco could switch from 8Cr13MoV for budget blades to 14C28N
I use a Resilience (8Cr) and an older blade from another mfg. (14c28n) on a daily basis as beater knives. Here's my take: 8Cr/Aus-8/BD1/etc. are a compromise between the fine grain of AEB-L/14c28n and the increased wear resistance of 440C/etc. 8Cr is closer to 440C than it is to AEB-L, but none of t...

Re: Blade Steels Proven Good For Serrated Edges
"Proven Good For Serrated Edges" In one sense, this is really easy: all good knife steels perform well with serrations, if you pick the right test. Sal says most steels cut CATRA cards 2x longer when serrated. In another sense, this is very difficult, since we haven't defined what makes a ...

Re: Benchstones: Necessity for dressing / roughening the surface?
I have read more than once that the fine and ultrafine stone will get finer and smoother until they are so smooth that they won't cut / work. Meaning one has to dress or roughen the surface to expose fresh "grit". Is that true? I know that some guys lap their stones with SiC powder or dia...

Re: Any "real-world" tests of SE H-1?
Here's the (unofficial) CATRA data Sal has provided: http://www.cliffstamp.com/knives/forum/read.php?5,71943 On serrations and CATRA, serrations will normally double (2X) the plain edge on something like S30V. That's our testing on our serrations. On the 2 Nitrogen steels that we are using, it is ru...
