I'd certainly go for a G-10 'Hawk, particularly with a liner. I'd feel safe using that baby.

Perhaps there's a backlog of the ATS-55 Civvies that they have to go through before we'll see the VG-10s. I don't find VG-10 versions listed anywhere, including the factory store.

You mean I'm the first to remember:

"I'll be back."

Another example of Arnie's literally deathless prose.

VG-10 Civilian?

Six months or so ago, there was a rumor floating around that the Civvie would be up-graded with a VG-10 blade. I think that would be a very nice upgrade yielding a sharper edge and improved corrosion resistance when carried in a sweaty pocket for extended stretches. Is that upgrade still under consi...

A Special Bargain

I've been following the prices of CF Civilians on E-Bay for a while, mostly out of morbid curiosity. I'd like to add a low serial number serrated one to my collection, but they are pricey as well as rare. The thought of the new CF Police spurred me to search one more time. Wow - one sold today (with...

Don't forget self-defense! I wouldn't have a Civilian in plain edge, other than to complete a collection. Other work-oriented hawkbills that cut cord, line, seatbelts, and the like can also benefit from a serated edge.

I hate to steal Pachuck's thunder, but will it have liners? That could very well make the difference in whether or not I carry one.

"IMO the military would fill the roll.Theres not much it can't do." Except function as a decent small game knife. You could hardly make a worse choice, what with the Millie's flat grind (good for deep cuts while you need a hollow grind for shallow cutting), a pointy blade (wrong shape for ...

cmassicotte,

Yyu're correct; perhaps what I should have said is that just because a group of letters is an abbreviation is no reason to assume it's an acronym. (Or maybe I just got my tongue in the way of my eye teeth and couldn't see what I was saying.)

Thanks, folks. Your answers ecouraged me to get my own Kiwi and I like the knife a lot. Fine ergonomics, sheeple friendly and very high quality worksmanship and materials. It now regularly rides along in my change pocket on dressy occasions. It also allows me the option of keeping my Cuda Maxx tucke...

Pachucks,

Your spelling is fine. However, you shouldn't try to pronounce an abbreviation. (Note: All abbreviations are NOT acronyms; one has to be able to pronounce an acronym.)

Robby, A strong lock is a safety device most important when a knife is used IMproperly, whether unintentionally or in an emergency, when asked to perform beyond its normal capabilities. It's similar to a car where seatbelts are completely unnecessary as long as you and all other drivers drive proper...

Clay was the first to answer my inquiry on the same subject. It appears that the knife is just too new for anyone to have formed any substantial opinions. I received mine this past Friday and like it a lot. I immediately dropped it in a pocket and went to a rather dressy dinner. It nestled nicely in...

G10 is a glass filled epoxy laminate; S30V is a steel. They are two completely different materials , one for handles, one for blades.

I used another hawkbill as an EDC for several years and it performed extremely well "for opening letters, cutting veggies, steak, cardboard boxes, opening various packages, minor pruning in the garden, etc." In fact, I miss it so much that, as much as I love my Military, I'm having another...

OK, here goes: Steels: S30V - By FAR the best; the only one designed and developed specifically for cutlery applications. D2 - Just keeps on cutting.
