Very nice. Pity that thinner liner is not Ti to match the lock side... Is it possible to make it look like the Ti liner by blasting it? Not sure, but I doubt it. It started out shiny, and I hand-finished it to a satin/brushed level. The Ti seems to be not just matte but a different color altogether.

Spyderco StriBenza (AKA Frankensage)

One side Sage 1, one side Sage 2. All stainless hardware satin finished. Pivot contact parts hand polished for smoothiliciousness. Sharp areas (Spyder hole, spine) lightly relieved. http://www.phylumphotography.com/macro/20100423_spyderco_0087.jpg http://www.phylumphotography.com/macro/20100423_spyd...

Eccentric pivot on Sage 1 and 2?

Just noticed that the ramp on the blade itself (Sage 2) is straight, not curved like on most of my other Spyderco linerlocks. Is the pivot pin eccentric? A straight ramp and round pin seems old fashioned these days. :)

I don't have pics right now but might be able to take some this weekend. The original Meerkat is the very very original one, before they even had the S-curve one. IIRC, I made a stop to the SFO (the first one in the old building) and Sal's wife showed me this crazy new magic knife, which I just had ...

Are these worth anything?

Hi all--I've been out of the knife loop for a good five years, having sold most of my collection to fund a business. I started getting back into it recently, and I came across a few Spydies that I did not sell. (I wish I'd held on to some of the ones I _did_ sell....) I was hoping someone could tell...

Perrin Street Beat Recurve

Does anyone know why the Street Beat has a barely perceptible recurve? It's not enough to change the way the knife cuts, but sharpening on flat stones will be a problem. By the way, it's probably the nicest Spydie I've owned, and one of only two that I've felt are "too nice to use hard." (...

Sheath for Perrin Street Beat

Anyone know where I can find a semi-custom* sheath for a Street Beat? I just contacted River City and On Scene, but those are the only two places I even know about.

*Nicer than the stock sheath but not requiring me to send in my own knife.

Yep--can opener. :)

I do have stones, strops, and all the rest, but I couldn't even say where they are now. Two kids in diapers and more work than I can handle....

That's the factory tip.

At 5x macro, the length of the blade you're seeing in that photo is well under 1 cm. It's amazing that the factory edge is so good.

Woo hoo! Big thanks to Jon. I got my PE Ocelot from knivesplus.com today.

What a great knife. It goes without saying that I'm in for two of any Ocelot sprint run.

Thanks, all. I got out of the knife-obsessing game for a few years, but I recently got the bug again.

I was the one who came up with the name "Ocelot" back in the day. I still have an unused, numbered one, and I just decided that I'd really like one to carry around all the time.

Thank you, good sir. :) Just ordered the PE from knivesplus--and noticed that osogrande.com listed one too, so I ordered that one. I have a feeling at least one of them will turn out to be not-really-so-in-stock. And if not, I guess I'll have extras!

Ocelot in stock anywhere?

I've been looking for a plain-edge Ocelot recently and just realized that the model must've been discontinued. Does anyone know of a place--even a brick-and-mortar store--that still has even one?

Take a random person off the street, and hand them a liner lock and lockback, and I'm willing to bet that 90% of the people you pick can close the liner lock faster and more easily than the lockback. I've found exactly the opposite to be the case. Most folks know how to operate a lockback, assuming...
