Re: Tip Down - Going to try it for a while

These clip and tip orientations ensure the blade spine is pressed up against the pocket seam closest to the hip/outside Right Front Pocket/Left Rear Pocket: RHTU, LHTD Left Front Pocket/Right Rear Pocket: LHTU, RHTD I've found the easiest draw + deploy (for whatever reason you want) are these combos...

Re: Official Sliverax Discussion Thread

So with that sort of fevered thinking going on in my mind, when I say "Sliverax" to myself, I see something akin to what could be efficiently described as a "knife-type Pokémon", and that makes me smile... so, I guess that means I actually quite like the new name, even if it's a...

Re: What collaborations would you like to see?

Some ideas were previously collected in this thread . Would love to see more options in the modern-traditional space like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToLOPYkiAkU https://www.instagram.com/p/BUA3loXA5Mi That's a teeny-tiny front flipper, on a Mnandi-sized folder. I managed to get one from hi...

Re: Spyderco bad quality in recent years Also WR dept changed

Last time I went out for a hike with the Bradley Bowie, I encountered some woodpeckers: http://i.imgur.com/Xvna0dD.jpg This past weekend, we encountered a brown bat all tuckered out on the bathroom floor at church: http://i.imgur.com/HU1IDGo.jpg I freed it by a shed we have on the property (I think ...

Did you say bigger EDC? Gayle Bradley 2!
It retains a lot of the Spyderco features and benefits while looking a bit more mainstream.

Re: Is there anyone else interested?

The only value I can currently see in running both a functional Spydiehole and lip opener is if the hole is substantially submerged in the handle when closed and used more like a nail nick.

Re: Is there anyone else interested?

The beauty of the lip opening knife is that it can also be slow rolled (like a Spydiehole, thumbstud/disc) or detent-tuned to flip if that suits your fancy. Unless the tab flipper has an alternative opening method (a la Mantra 1, Southard, Advocate), you're stuck with flip deployment. Admittedly, th...

Re: Is there anyone else interested?

I am quite interested, as I have posted in the past. I believe the term used in the South African knife making circle is "lip opener" for the extended tang manual opener. When the tang is extended more in line or above the pivot it is a front flipper. It is usually found on liner/framelock...

I saw this last year, and have been mentally toying with the idea of magnetic pivots.

2 for me: Bradley Bowie, GB2 2 for her: DF2 ZDP-189, Bug Admirable. Alas, I can only strive for such practicality. :) My wife is pretty anti-collectionistic, so I really, really need to justify my choices for their ecological niches. I've had more in the past, and at the peak it was... 4 Spydies, w...

Re: Some Bradley Bowie pics...

It had just rained for a couple of days before, so I wasn't quite sure how mucky the valley was. Fortunately, there was significant leaf litter to walk around on, so I didn't slip and die. Sorry for the giant photos. Putting the Bradley Bowie to work doing random bushcrafty things that I saw on Yout...

Re: Gift of Spyderco

One of the first gifts I got for my wife after I got into knives was the DF2 (ZDP) because she likes green and small things (and I like the DF2). She uses it occasionally, but doesn't quite have the compulsion I have to carry sharp things. Fast forward to two weeks ago when she saw me watching a you...

Re: Why is Positron so overlooked ?

My hands are on the smaller end of medium and I got a good grip on the Positron. The flat butt of the handle nestled perfectly into my palm next to the thumb muscle. I don't know if I'd ever press it into service that required a full hammer grip though, as it is built to be a slicer. Why it does not...

Re: Some Bradley Bowie pics...

Thanks! I'll definitely dump any good ones I get in here. It was definitely smaller than I expected, even with the numbers on hand. The handle is about the same length as the GB2's. I think part of the reason it is pretty rare to hear about on the boards is its price. There are way too many more aff...

Re: Some Bradley Bowie pics...

My location and lifestyle does not afford me enough time outdoors to use mine to full effect, but I'm going to try to get out this weekend and get some action in (and photos). I was able to do a bit of fire prep and batonning last year. It's a beefy blade, but a reluctant chopper. The factory grind ...
