Hey Sal, any plans for CTS BD1N?
It's 2018 and it looks like the age of Nitrogen steel and nitrides is upon us. Is there any plans for CarTech BD1N? (Not to be confused with bd1 or bdz1) It is a unique steel since it doesn't substitute carbon for Nitrogen, it has both. It has a higher working Hardeness then the other Nitrogen steel...

Re: Let's talk about Vanax
I bought a piece of VANAX for a hunter, the composition looks really exciting, especially if it can push past 60rc with the right Aus and temper. Looks like it will be difficult to pull off though after reading the experiences here and looking at the spec sheet. I'd like to see more excitement for C...

Re: Spyderco Maxamet Status Check
Huge respect for even making models in this steel Sal, let alone.making it a full production available to all. Thanks man
I'll really appreciate you guys being so bold and putting out such an exotic high performance steel.

Re: Changing blade FRN to G10 for Maxamet
FRN getting seriously underrated up in here. Bet you guys think Glocks feel cheap and flimsy too? Given a choice between G10 and FRN I have only chosen G10 once, and that was the Manix 2 M4. If there had been a translucent FRN M4 I would have bought it instead. Try it, the lack of weight is no indi...

Yes it does, I gifted a friend a Maxamet native, he blade swapped a G10 S35vn so he could dump the "Lego" scales. Looks great

Re: VTOKU Sprint Run
Bill Burke imports this steel from Takefu to supply Blade-smiths for forging. We're helping with the minimum quantity requirements for him. Seemed like a very nice steel and we thought the steel junky's might want to play. I know I want to play. sal Nice, very cool you guys helping the community to...

Re: VTOKU Sprint Run
It's closest comparison in chemistry is 52100 but with some tungsten. Tougher then super blue but not as much edge holding. It's used on alot of japanese kitchen knives, more of a workhorse steel. The rumor is the swedish ore is cleaner and has less impurities and inclusions making a finer grain pro...

Re: PM 2 MAXAMET review/rant
So I read up on Maxamet wear resistance and wanted to try it. After ordering it I came across sone YouTube videos of it chipping badly being sharpened, while cutting, and minimal prying and cutting plastic. I also saw people taking hours to sharpen it. Well, after receiving it I noticed some change...

Re: Maxamet PM2
Nice, what stones? WE Which ones? I'm not familiar with the Wicked Edge. I usually try to start with 400 grit diamond if possible, and it cut the Maxamet like butter. So diamond 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500. Then ceramic 1200, 1600. Followed by my poor man's lapping films: 2000, 2500, 3000 grit sandpa...

Re: Maxamet PM2
Found some time today and reprofiled to 17dps... I'm far from an expert (mostly a novice), but I gotta say that this is some of the easiest steel to reprofile that I've sharpened. Reprofiled with 400 grit and ended with 3000 just cause it was so enjoyable. Seriously, S30v is harder to sharpen. The ...

Re: Spyderco Police 4, K390 is awesome!
Btw, this stone is amazing on k390 https://i.imgur.com/9D690zU.jpg If it wasn't for Michael Christy I'd never know how rad this stone is, I've been so obsessed with only using diamond on high carbide volume steels that I never gave this stone a time of day. https://i.imgur.com/BaFoefB.jpg It's proba...

Re: Spyderco Police 4, K390 is awesome!
https://i.imgur.com/tVCiSMv.jpg I hit the Maxamet on the Venev Diamond bonded waterstone this morning to confirm my earlier experience. I've Sharpened this knife wayyy more then it needs just to explore it. I made an 800 grit Burr then hit a few extremely light edge trailing passes at the same angl...

Re: Spyderco Police 4, K390 is awesome!
K390 is rad, might be my new current favorite but it's tough to pick between Maxamet, 10v, Cru-wear, v4e, 4v and m4 Too much good stuff. I know everyone wants every steel quantified to know exactly how much better one is over another ( I am the same way) but in the real world there is no answer for ...

Spyderco Police 4, K390 is awesome!
I love this steel. 3rd gen powder must make a difference. Sharpens like a boss, grinds easy for what it is and is in that m4 class of steels that want to get sharp. It begs to be apexed to a crisp point. I like that. It polishes good and accepts a polished edge well. It also deburrs like a champ. ht...
