Re: New to the forum and Spyderco

The GP is a good knife. I ended up selling mine when I got a PXL, but only because it was smaller than I like.

Fällkniven folders are extremely underrated/overlooked. Lionsteel too, honestly.

Re: Experience/Opinion on Skiff FingerBit?

Heat is the best way to defeat thread locker, not torque. A soldering iron is usually enough. Just hold the tip to the screw head. The best use for the finger bit, in my opinion, is for free spinning pivots. It's much easier to use that and a regular driver than it is to try to use two regular drive...

Re: What "Other" is in your pocket???

They significantly increased the detent strength in the models with steel interfaces. I've owned at least a half dozen, and they've all been 7/10 or stronger. My XM24 was the strongest detent I've ever experienced, out of the box. It took 2 years of regular use before I could reverse flick it. I act...

Re: Benchmade Knife Company

I'll definitely be getting the S90V version. It'll be the first new Benchmade I've bought since the Anthem. I carried a 940 for most of my time in the military, so I'll probably always have this innate fondness for them, but they just haven't released much that's interested me in the better part of ...

Re: Böhler K888 Matrix Steel

Great point about the current overlapping products. I also didn't know their R&D operated independently of each other.

Thanks for the reply!

Re: What "others" are in the mail?

I have a Spyderco Hungarian I would not dare to carry or cut with and give it micro scratches (because it happens on ALL my knives lol), but when I bought a Large 31 w/ micarta inlay in Magnacut, I had no trouble immediately carrying and sharpening the knife. Cost me more than 4 times the price I p...

Re: Böhler K888 Matrix Steel

Wouldn't k890 still be far tougher that any average user would actually need/even notice, while having better edge retention?

Knowing Bohler, though, I'm assuming k888 is gonna be to k890 what Vanadis 8 was to Vanadis 10.

Either way, New steel is always interesting!

Have you ever done a hand satin finish before?

If not, S90V is just about the worst possible steel to start with.

I'd love to see some more pics, too.

I'm seeing some things that don't look right, as well, but I'm mostly surprised by the things I see that do look right.

Re: What "Other" is in your pocket???

That was quick Salty!! Micarta scales and all. Is that the 3 inch? I saw a a couple decent 3.5's on ebay that weren't outrageously priced, but did want to pay the shipping and ebay fees so I held off. That's a 3" The pivot "touches" the tip down clip recess on the 3" models. The...

Re: What Spyderco Knife Has Surprised You the Most and Why

Probably the Vrango. It's been everything I hoped the Techno platform was gonna be, back when it was announced. Fairly beefy handle, with a nice slicy grind. I only bought it because it was NIB and really cheap. I expected it to go largely untouched in my collection, but it's been in my pocket most ...

Re: Making micarta more grippy

I'm gonna tag on to this thread since it hasn't been bumped in a while and my question is on nearly the same topic... If micarta is oiled, does the oil seep into the fabric or is the fabric already permanently saturated by the resin that it's in? I'm wondering if a natural long term patina put on m...
