Re: MAP policy change? 35%
Did you read any of the other posts in the thread about how Walmart/Amazon gain leverage by controlling a higher percentage of a manufacturer's sales and use that to force lower and lower pricing from the manufacturer and then the manufacturer is forced to compromise quality and outsource offshore a...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%
5% - I am counting the big $ right now. Think I'll run down and pre-order a bright orange Lambo! Here's what I think will happen: You are going to have more dealers representing the brand, the kind of dealers who treat people right and the perceived value of the brand will go up, not down. You'll ov...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%
Little Johnny doesn't need piano lessons...daddy needs a new knife!! LOL There is one thing we got to remember.. This is a hobby.. Nothing more or less.. Justa hobby.. Not a necessity.. In reality we can get by with 1 knife.. We really don't need a pile!! (Did I really say that?? :o ) As I read thru...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%
You can't take the average government inflation reported for the past 12 years and apply it to a specific business and hope to have any sort of relevant or accurate comparison. That's the average for the whole country across the board and has zero reflection on specific materials, and geographic are...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%
Exactly. Where I live there isn't a single local store that sells Spyderco. If I open a B&M I will. A ton of small dealers had to dump BM, but none of the big dealers, strange? If MAP is so much better for smaller dealers then why did so many drop BM? Both my local sporting goods store and the l...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%
Let me point some things out: 1) I never said I needed to pay more because I had to spend money defending a frivolous law suit. My point of the story was to compare a loyal business like Spyderco to some of the soulless folks I deal with. I should have bought liability insurance, but my business was...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%
So you think dealers should be happy to carry and promote the brand to make $5 on a $100? Many dealers don't bother selling Spyderco as there is not enough meat on the bone. This is not greed, it's economic reality. As I was saying, I sell Spyderco because I love the brand and they are what got me i...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%
People vote with their dollars and that leads to the reality in the market. People that knowingly buy fakes make the problem possible. My dad always said a good deal is a good deal when both sides win. I try to live by that. I charge what I think is fair to me and to my customers all things consider...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%
My business has grown every single year since I started it. Why?? Because we have a huge commitment towards customer service at a high level. We treat people how we want to be treated and those that deal with us that value this sort of thing come back time and time again. They know their knife will ...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%
Thank You Sal. I honestly think if everyone knew how crazy business really is dealing with: fakes, lawsuits, competition from countries with no labor laws, scammers, unethical competition...etc they would really appreciate a business like Spyderco who tries to treat the people it deals decently and ...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%
I think I will sell around the same # of knives, but making just 5% would make a huge difference in my ability to stay committed to selling the brand. As for Amazon, if I were Spyderco I would stay away as far as possible. Bezos is a shark and out for blood. They are the type of business to sell you...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%
Don't take my word for it, go out get your business license setup and become a dealer and find out for yourself what dealer price is. Technically it's $104.95. I'd say it's time for a knife dealer to chime in and add some real world information to this debate. 1st off I sell Spyderco because I love ...

Re: MAP policy change? 35%
I'd say it's time for a knife dealer to chime in and add some real world information to this debate. 1st off I sell Spyderco because I love the brand and respect Sal Glesser and his way of treating people. I don't sell it because there is a lot of money in it, because there isn't. Let's use the vene...

Re: Spyderco Consumer Announcement
Do you care about Spyderco's survival as a brand? Without a healthy chain of distribution with broad network of good sellers this won't happen. There has to be enough profit in it for all parties involved to make it worthwhile. A good business relationship is about win/win. If it means paying a few ...

Re: is my para 2 real?
Fakes have effected all dealers. I get to answer non stop questions about if the knife is real or not. I think it helps big sellers like BladeHQ and Knifecenter because people know them. Us small sellers seem to take the brunt of stuff like this. My Spyderco sales are way down this Fall. I think bet...

Re: Spyderco Consumer Announcement
This will have zero effect on consumers unless Spyderco has a way to track inventory and enforces those in violation of MAP. Without that the only people hurt by this will be honest dealers who stick to MAP. That's a fact. Here's the heart of the issue: Dealer price is half MSRP. So $50 on $100 doll...

I guess if you live in a country where you can't have a locking knife, but at the same time you'd want a Military...then these would be perfect!
