Re: Spyderco Dodo in LC200N

I think that steel choice is less than ideal, the blade is too difficult to reliably sharpen as often as LC200N would require. The Dodo would really function best, IMO, with very wear resistant steels like S60V, S90V, K390, or even Maxamet I don't have Dodo, but I think the exact opposite. The kink...

Re: Can we (civilly) discuss fixed blade prices?

I know this is a completly dream, but a collaboration between Spyderco and Nathan Carother would be epic. Something like his EDC2, or a utility knife would be epic. But that is never going to happened, as well as me owning one knife from Carother. I like this idea. Why couldn’t this happen? Not sur...

Base model is 20CV ...
I was close enough :D

Actually, the idea of carbon/tool steel is very interesting, this knife with some nice blue and grey patina would look awesome.

Re: Boltaron Sheath w/G-clip for

Any decent kydex sheath maker should be able to make one, and you can buy G-clip from Spyderco. Heck, you can try it make one at home, there are a lot tutorials on YouTube.

Re: No sprints and/or exclusives for the Watu ?!

It's a bit too soon, but I would say it is a quite popular model, so it is a matter of time. But the base model is a quite exclusive even right now, CF laminate and M390(?) You don't see on every model. Dealer exclusive is always possible, maybe DLT with red G10 and 20CV? Or someone else with other ...

Re: Can we (civilly) discuss fixed blade prices?

I agree with Vivi more or less.
Simple contoured handle with G10 or micarta.
3.5 inch blade.
A2 steel, why not.
Kydex sheath.
Blade shape...hmm, I could live with semi skinner, but some general drop point is ok.

Re: Can we (civilly) discuss fixed blade prices?

Just my opinion, wood scales are always going to be tricky to finish, if they are not stabilized. Wood can still shift a bit so some gaps on wooden scales are ,,a normal,, thing. This is why micarta and G10 are superior :D Back to topic: Since Golden factory doesnt have to import stuff (they can use...

Re: Can we (civilly) discuss fixed blade prices?

Look, I think that everyone want to see Spyderco fixed blades with a lower price tag. But, there is always a point of diminishing returns for every single person. One think that paying more than a 15€ for mora is insane, because Mora. Other think that 330€ for Proficient is ok, because of materials ...

Re: Can we (civilly) discuss fixed blade prices?

Hey David My oersonal limit os around 250€. That is kinda a problem here in Europe, prices are very high, Proficient is around 320€. I am looking forward for every fixed blade, maybe I will not buy, but I am looking for it. More Phil Wilson colabs, like his semi skinner, or in house designs, yeah, m...

Re: Can we (civilly) discuss fixed blade prices?

Look at the Zoomer or Proficient handle: METRIC TON of machining, sanding and polishing. That is most of the price I would say. When you compare that to the Para 2 handle, just a slab of G10, some internal milling and you are done. Spyderco fixed are on the expensive side. Japanese line is more expe...

Re: Improved backlocks

None that I am awere of. Chaparral is the only backlock that has stop pin as well. There are others framelocks and compression locks with internal stop pins, but only this backlock. Is a needed feature? Probably not, tons on backlock functions the same way without it. Is it nice to have feature? Yes...

Re: Bill Moran with new steel?

Well, stainless are good because they are stainless, but steels like 1095, which has corrosion resistance of -1 on scale from 0 to 10, are used for decades out in the mother nature without any problems. Just wipe them dry and you are good. Dont need to coat them in oil after every single cut, just d...

Re: Bill Moran with new steel?

Wrote up a little reply about a thought I had of a Loveless infused Moran. I figured it would be very neat to see those two great makers represented in a single knife. Essentially a Moran using ATS34 or RWL34 steel with a tapered tang. However, that may in some way be undesired here given the parti...

Bill Moran with new steel?

In some recent thread about Spyderco model and steel combination there were quite a few members talking about Moran Fixed blade with some ,,upgraded,, steel. Since the research and development is already done for this model, and there are FRN molds for it, why not just stick some new and hot steel i...
