Re: Sal allows you to tweak ONE thing on any existing model...
Slysz bowie with drop point blade Or a more clippy, clip point even better. I love me some good belly to a blade, but can't stand it when the fine "stabby" tip is sacraficed. It's kind of just my thing I guess, but I find an acute point useful, and it's a deal breaker to me if a knife doe...

Re: Military M4 vs 110v
Both are fine steels. Isn't there still a Ti/CF version out there as an exclusive? I think that would be the direction I'd go. I prefer M4 to S110V except for corrosion resistance.

Walmart owns Jet.com, I believe, so nothing too surprising there.

Re: Paramilitary 2 lemon
Zip Ties can vary in how soft they are and some can do damage to knife blades, but it will also depend on how thin the blade is (including if there's weakened metal at the cutting edge). The thinner the blade, the better the slicer, but there are some jobs that having a thicker/tougher edge can come...

Re: Pakka Delica questions
My Ti Delica is stiff, too, maybe it's normal on non FRN versions of the knife? I wouldn't loosen it up, make sure it's lubricated and break it in.

Re: Pondering AEB-L
All of this amazes me, to say the least. I will say up front that I am no steel guru and am only beginning to learn. However, 13C26/AEB-L is in the 440A class of steels, from what I can tell. Now, 440A can be run hard, and it is a good steel, but it is an old basic stainless steel. http://www.zkniv...

Re: Pondering AEB-L
14C28N is not necessarily an improved version of AEB-L. AEB-L is supposed to have the best carbide structure if I remember correctly and 14C28N added a bit of edge retention at the cost of edge stability (slight cost, both are low carbide steels). This is my understanding but it's been a while since...

The price for the caly 3.5 on Amazon hit 75 last night but it is now out of stock... Wow - hop on that, seem that they are still taking orders at that price. That is +25% discount to the previous low. I wonder why that model is taking those hits and the others are not. Amazon has an interesting pri...

Re: Why is the Domino so overlooked as an edc ?
Some people don't like the scales, others question Spyderco's flippers or don't like flippers in general. The domino is a nice little knife, but I rarely ever pocket mine. I prefer stronger detents and the blade spine is a bit sharp. That's sort of nitpicking because by comparison with knives from o...

Re: S30V or 204P for food prep?
I would go for a lower carbide steel for food prep use. Some suggestions for the Military? I'm not familiar with every variant of the Military as there have been quite a few. 52100 is the lowest carbide version, most likely, and is an excellent steel but it corrodes and would require a lot of care....

Re: Spyderco Heat Treatment
One thing I'll add: despite the critical importance of heat treat, you don't often hear it discussed in knife forums (at least not nearly as much as discussing the relative virtues of hot new steels) because heat treats are proprietary. Because of this, the consumer can't easily compare heat treats...

Re: S30V or 204P for food prep?
204P of those choices, I'm not a huge fan of sharpening S30V or the edge it takes. I would go for a lower carbide steel for food prep use. Plenty available, any with a good heat treat will do you well (food prep isn't typically all that hard on an edge).

Re: Spyderco Lil' Nilakka Flash Batch C221GPWH Dropping
I purchased one. It's a nice little knife, it's similar in many ways to the Des Horn model but with a few improvements. RWL 34 makes a lot more sense than S30V.

Re: spyderco quality fluctuations throughout the years
I think it's more about consistency with certain production facilities, more than anything. Japan had some issues with makers retiring and the US production facility was probably still in the process of building up it's quality of workers and keeping up with production numbers (these are just guesse...

Re: Anyone see Apostle P's rant on Spyderco?
I'm with Jim, never had to take my Spydercos apart and I carry one nearly every day. With bearings or with certain steels (like 52100), I can see why someone might, but I think it's more the obsessive nature of certain knife collectors that leads others to believe they need to take their knives apar...

He's entitled to his opinion. People are more likely to put information out there if they belong to one of the extremes with their viewpoints.
His strong views regarding certain things outside of the knife hobby prevent me from being able to take him seriously anymore.

Sounds like it got some crud stuck in it. The Compression Lock is just fine with that sort of work. Clean it, dry it, lube it.

Re: Urban K390 in stock
Except for the sharp spine, I love this knife. It's a Dragonfly replacement, IMO. The steel does patina quickly, I find, but so long as it doesn't rust I don't care. The ergos are fantastic for such a small knife, the clip is one of the best, the scales are nicely made and look good (but might be sl...
