Re: Blade HQ Jade/M4 Dodo SE coming

Did you take it down to 30 degrees then? How long did that take you to do the front side? Yes I used the 30 degree slots so it's 15 on the front and I kept the back side as close to flat as possible to keep the chisel grind. I used fast up and down stokes and it took about 90 mins. I've reprofiled ...

Re: Blade HQ Jade/M4 Dodo SE coming

For those that picked up one of these, I highly recommend giving the SE Dodo a reprofile. The cutting performance is a night and day comparison. Out of the box my reprofiled PE was cutting circles around the factory SE which seemed to be a touch over 20 degrees. https://i.imgur.com/gYGne82.jpg Front...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

My first attempt at reprofiling an SE knife. The tips of the serrations are too pokey and don't cut very well. Been working at this one on and off for about 3 hours now over the past few days. Still a ways to go, but so far so good. I've never really followed much with SE...best to leave it toothy ...

Re: Corrosion Reports

And you (Turbo) live really close to the sea, right? So the general climate (also in the house) might be rather "salty"? :thinking We do live close to the beach but I don't have issues with other kitchen knives I maintain (just drying them off after use) in much less corrosion resistant s...

No dishwasher but I've seen them in the sink in the morning after sitting for a night. There's a reason I keep my knives separate from the rest ;)

Re: Sharpmaker up and down

When reprofiling a knife on a Sharpmaker I use up and down stokes. It's MUCH faster than using only down stokes. That said I only use the Sharpmaker for SE and curved blades.

Re: Increasing & Decreasing Angles

The 30° edge will also dull more quickly, requiring more frequent sharpening. While it is the case that a lower angle will dull at the apex more quickly, due to the overall geometry a lower angle edge will maintain better cutting ability longer than a higher angle edge. A 30° edge has better edge r...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

I let this get duller than usual so I gave it a full sharpening starting with the CBN rods then brown and finished with a few passes on the fine rods that resulted in a nice polished toothy edge that cuts with a smooth yet aggressive feel.

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

My latest attempt to reprofile my SE Hawkbill Dfly resulted in an edge that is about as close to a plain edge as you can get while still technically being serrated. It's not a hawkbill but for some reason reprofiling this Dfly took forever. https://i.imgur.com/HbrEowd.jpg My Rock Jumper went much q...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Smooooooooth..... How are the corners on your Diamond rods holding up? Please school me.I thought somewhere I read(heard) that they didn't advise using the corners on the diamonds or am I misrememberiing. The corners on the diamond or CBN rods are the best way to reprofile an SE edge. You need to t...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Put a fresh edge on the SE Delica Wharny. It was originally sharpened to about 13 degrees by leaning the blade into the rod. After the initial reprofile I sharpen the front side at 15 degrees with the CBN rods and use the fine rods on the back to remove the burr. It goes through cardboard like it's ...
