Re: Spyderco C81GPGY2 Paramilitary 2 CRU-WEAR
Probably shouldn't have because I didn't really have the knife budget to spare, but went ahead and snagged one from CS this afternoon. One of my favorite steels in one of my favorite platforms was too much to pass up. I'll deal with the knife budget problems later.

Re: Fluted CF on other models someday?
The fluted ti military is far and away one of the nicest knives I've ever owned. I think a fluted CF version would be ridiculously awesome. I wouldn't complain if it was in S110V

Re: Nirvana RE-incarnated
I thought I'd read several times that the acid wash before the stonewash put a layer of protective patina on the blade, therefore making it less susceptible to corrosion. My experience with this blade tells me this is not the case. I had one that developed surface rust/staining just from being in m...

Re: Spydiechef-am I the only one??
If the spine of the blade followed the final angle of the handle this thing would be an amazing EDC, eclipsing the bowie IMO. As it stands it's too small for true kitchen use and the tip is wrong for EDC Despite the name, I'm viewing this model as more of an EDC blade and not so much a food prep kn...

Found this in an older thread. Looks to be about the size of the Slysz Bowie and that's ok by me.

Re: Sage 5 has a through-the-blade stop pin as well as a normal one - (PICS)
The choice of the through the blade stop on the Chaparral and Sage 5 is interesting to me because it is not required for solid lockup on either the lockback or compression lock. The Native 5 and PM2 both lock up extremely well without a pin through the tang. Perhaps the extra pin helps reduce blade ...

Re: Why the Manix in Maxemet?
Seems to me that the Manix LW has turned into the de facto "folding Mule" that has been discussed elsewhere on this forum. I think it's a great platform for getting interesting steels to the market in a relatively low cost knife.

I saw a pre-order for one of these for pretty much exactly that amount. All things considered, not too bad for Maxamet in a tough, lightweight folder.Surfingringo wrote:It looks like MSRP will be 269.95 so these should retail most places for 161.97.

Re: Sage 5 / Zome Now Available *PIC HEAVY*
Well thanks to the Sage 5, I basically have zero interest in the Para 3. It'll have to somehow have better ergonomics than the Sage, which I really really doubt. The only thing it has going for it in my book is being made in Golden which I always prefer when possible, but Taichung is the next best ...

Re: Spyderco Flipper with Compression Lock? Anything upcoming?
Brad Southard had a custom compression lock flipper at Blade 2015 and it was pretty awesome and worked very well. You release the lock and move your finger out if the way to let the flipper tab come through when the blade closes. EDIT: found an instagram video of Brad's compression lock flipper. ht...

Re: Which Spyderco best for whittling wood?
For folders, I think the Native 5 is one of the best cutting/carving tools around. Great ergos and a compact blade for tight work. I did some side by side cutting comparisons with a few spydies (Military, PM2, GB1 and a couple others) doing various cuts on wood. I wasn't testing edge retention per s...

Re: Spyderco and heat-treat consistency
There tends to be a deviation in the same HT batch of up to about 3 HRC. I don't know how much equipment can vary in its measurement of the hardness, but I imagine it is not perfect. I would also think that there would be an almost infinite number of variables that could differentiate one batch fro...

Re: The K2 Thread
My K2 arrived this past Friday and basically stayed in my pocket throughout the weekend. I am highly impressed with how well this carries for such a large knife. I spent the largest part of the weekend wearing shorts made of very lightweight fabric and most of the time barely even noticed the K2 in ...

Re: The K2 Thread
I too had a K2 and sold it, and now have another on the way. It's kind of a ridiculous size for someone who likes smaller folding knives but in the end it's a heckuva blade. Here are some size comparison photos of my old K2 while I wait for the new one to arrive... https://c3.staticflickr.com/4/3929...
