Re: Any word on the Salsa?

I'd love to see titanium scales and integral comp lock like the C71TI. I'd be happy with any steel that's higher in corrosion resistance. I'd prefer the cobra hood if it was a larger knife that I'd use with gloves, but I'd be okay without it on a smaller knife like the Salsa.

Re: Upping the price.

I think that most folks that know anything about China and International manufacturing and sales know that US makers really can't compete with Chinese made products simply because of the value of the Yuan. We've watched China take over many an industry simply because of the Yuan valuation. That's w...

Cricket Lightweight

@SpydercoKnivesOfficial just posted a YouTube of the discontinued Cricket Lightweight - https://www.youtube.com/shorts/QLZOxAv8FQY

There's no commentary. Could we be getting a sprint run? Or are they just showing off something from the vault?

Re: Is it getting close to a new Goddard sprint run?

There are some challenges to a Goddard "Sprint". The original tooling for the FRN model is old and outdated. The original was made with Micarta, bit the Micarta didn't do a good job at holding clip screws. We could do a sprint in Micrta or G-10, but we'd have to use skeletonized liners to...

Re: No movement in the forum

Why no new threads? Does everyone dislike the Byrd products. :worried :worried I don't think it's dislike of Byrd products as much as it's lack of new releases and lack of anything enthusiast oriented in the lineup. The Byrd brand is a step below the value line, so it's inherently basic, utilitaria...

Is there a "Native Chief" Byrd? I'll need to look for one...
The Cara Cara 2 is probably closest, although it's more of a value line Endura with a finger choil instead of a ricasso in blade and handle shape. So, the Byrd precursor to the Stretch 2 XL, I guess.

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

Uhh.. KnifeCenter is processing my pre-order.. Your post made me check. Today they sent me the same "This is a friendly note to let you know that your order is still in process." email that they've been sending me every 2 or 3 weeks for just over the year since I pre-ordered. Hope Spyderc...

Re: Availability of Magnacut knives?

I have been looking for a Magnacut knife and see lots of postings for the Salt and talk of the Paramilitary but, nothing is in stock. The Syperco Mule seems to be a very limited run for collectors so, it doesn't seem to be available either. What does production of Magnacut Spyderco knives look like...

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

I should probably add some info to the thread: We worked with Larrin and Shawn to optimize the heat treat on MagnaCut. We nailed that down some time ago. The delay with the Native MagnaCut model was in tank testing materials that could work with MagnaCut as a salt (no galvanic reaction to materials...

Re: Best Spyderco as Back-up to CCW

Not a Spyderco, but the Ka-Bar TDI. It's an angled fixed blade that gets around push knife laws. It was purpose designed as a weak side carry knife to defend against a strong side gun grab. Since it's a push knife that isn't, it also requires very little training - just grab it and punch with it. Fo...

Re: The most "standard" spyderco pocket knife in 2022 ?

Other than the Police (model number C07) the Endura (C10) and Delica (C11) are the oldest Spyderco knives that are still produced. Those are certainly very representative of Spyderco. However, I think the Native 5 is probably the most standard model. It's still fairly old in Spyderco chronology - C4...

Pricing

There's been a fair bit of talk about pricing recently, and I've been thinking about over the past few weeks myself. The Native 5 G10 now has a MAP price of $180.95. Spyderco's lowest priced, US made, locking blade, folder is the riveted construction Manix 2 lightweight with FRCP handle and BD1N bla...

Re: Would you buy a VG10 knife in 2022?

I voted maybe, but it's really a "Yes, if I like the design". I plan to buy a Stretch 2 XL because I like the design. VG-10 is the minimum steel I'd expect for an FRN handle knife of that size and price point. In contrast, I now own four Native 5's, three of which are lightweights, includi...

Re: A few newbie questions

I am hoping the group could help me with a few questions. I've pretty much always carried a knife with me (just found this forum), my native 5 has been my favorite for the last few years, can you by carbon fiber grips for it? I've searched the net and only find mods/parts for other Spyderco models....

The Siren is a backlock with no hump in the PM2-ish size.
With a tiny grip area for the size of the handle, and a huge finger guard that keeps your hand far back from the edge.
