Re: CPM 15v Manix 2
Everyone wants the hardest steel available, until they drop it from waist height and the blade brakes like this one. Also the max HRC is 64 which means the released blade will likely be 61-62, but still fragile. 15V has been around since the 90’s and there is a reason you do not see it in knife bla...

Re: Is a DLC coated pm2 with k390 steel and green canvas micarta basically the quintessential folding knife?
No.
I'm not a fan of the compression lock and DLC sucks.
For me, a smoothed-handled Endela in bare K390 is the current king. I was cutting half-inch shrubs branches today with nary a hot spot and still a fine looking edge.

There's probably already a name for this model, but in light of recent events, I think it should be renamed the Trevor.

Re: Quick Endura Praise
Eli, what steel on that baby? Perhaps it might be worth cross-posting in the Spyderco for field dressing thread. Nothing like real-world experience and observations to answer that OP's question. Standard VG10. It looks like a link was posted to that thread you mentioned. The Seki models are far too...

Quick Endura Praise
I've given my son in law a few Spydies over the years to include an engraved H1 Dragonfly that lives in his tackle box and a Delica that sees general use but the first one was a blue handled Endura. He works in flooring and used it a lot to cut carpet, linoleum, etc. until he snapped the clip off an...

Re: Chef's knives - questions, ideas & recommendations
Many Japanese knives are not asymmetrical and even more are mildly so and not a problem at all to sharpen. In fact, single bevel knives, of which I'm not a fan for practical uses, are widely considered quite easy to sharpen. I can offer you this video by a friend: https://youtu.be/kb5OEGi10zM But, y...

That said, Warther Cutlery uses S45VN and North Arm Knives uses S35VN.
I have no experience with either so can't speak to the quality, grinds or profiles.

Re: Chef's knives - questions, ideas & recommendations
So let's look at your perception of Japanese knives for starters just to see if there might be some things you're confused about. 1) Western (yo) handled knives are actually quite traditional and there are tons of options out there with them. Gyuto's were fashioned after the French Sabatier. 2) Shar...

Re: Spyderco Chinese Chef Knife?
There is absolutely a market out there for high-end ($400+) cai dao. Both in the mainstream and among custom makers. The question to me is, is that Spyderco's market? And even if so, could they pull enough of the market to make it worthwhile? I mean up around this price range, you're getting into th...

Re: How About a Kiridashi
Ha ha, yeah, hard to argue with that. Maybe if it was a Kiridashi folder, but then again, not sure the blade type would catch a lot of peoples interest and making it a folder would bump up the price. I pondered the folding kiridashi idea at one time and even brought it up here quite some time ago. ...

Glad you're enjoying it! At that price point, it's expected there will be some minor fit and finish issues. Plain ole laxative grade mineral oil or board wax (bees wax + mineral oil) are common for the handles and what I use most often. Ginsan is a nice stainless. Thanks for giving me help and guid...

Re: Stonewashing a Blade, Good Idea or Not?
Why create potential drag? Once stonewashed the surface is quite smooth, I'm not even slightly concerned with drag. The reasons I chose to do it are additional corrosion resistance and aesthetics. Okay that 's good, thanks. A lot of the finishes I've encountered have had a texture and you don't that.
