Re: Have you found "the one?"
Not really, but in the meantime there’s the native 5 in m4, rex45 and maxamet , sage 1 in maxamet, and delica in hap40. Also an incoming delica in m4.

Re: Straight Razor from Spyderco
I’ve tried his method several times with various abrasives ranging from worn coarse diamond plate to soft/hard/black Arkansas with mostly success. Just make sure you follow the basics and don’t substitute a paddle strop for a hanging one or do things in a different order. My only linen strop is clea...

Re: Straight Razor from Spyderco
I have a 4x12 inch piece of balsa wood with green compound (chrome oxide) on one side and red compound (iron oxide) on the other. It does refine the edge but I only use it for troublesome razors. From what I understand, hard backed abrasives such as red/green compound, diamond, lapping film, etc on ...

Re: Straight Razor from Spyderco
I guess it depends on your definition of sharpening. I've heard the terms, sharpen/hone/strop when it comes to razors. There's bevel setting with coarse abrasive (sharpen?), then refinement with increasing grit abrasive (honing?), then bare leather strop. Not sure where a strop with abrasive applied...

Re: Anyone use a Straight razor/Artist Club razor/Shavette razor?
Thanks, it was spur of the moment while deciding whether to trash it, seasoned horse apple. I left the bark because it was good and tight. Also, I've never tried tung oil on barked wood, so thought it would be a good experiment. Pictured is raw wood. It's sitting right now with the 1st coat. It's ki...

Re: Anyone use a Straight razor/Artist Club razor/Shavette razor?
It's encouraging to know the Colling is shaving well. Mine stills shows to be in Brisbane. As for the devil razor, don't worry, it would not left my possession as it was without destroying it. After chopping it down and grinding away on a very coarse stone for longer than I care to admit, the geomet...

Re: Anyone use a Straight razor/Artist Club razor/Shavette razor?
Erik Antonberg Swede razor. I was looking forward to this being a better one of the bunch, but so far just the opposite. I knew something was wrong when I heard popping and felt grittiness on every few strokes. The edge is crumbling on any/every stone I use, resulting in microchips along the edge. G...

Re: Straight Razor from Spyderco
I always used a plastic cup with a lid as I was usually travelling. sal Same here, a small tupperware bowl. In this case, I forgot the brush and mix bowl (I prefer a separate container to make lather). Stopped in a hardware store and got a $1 paint brush and used the plastic motel cup to mix lather...

Re: Anyone use a Straight razor/Artist Club razor/Shavette razor?
The pipe razor only needed honed. It was a very good shave, much like the wade & butcher. This one also has a thick blade with no audible feedback. I guess that's the way these old razors were ground. Handle stays put and appears to be horn, lightly nibbled by some critter. If it maintains well,...

Re: Anyone use a Straight razor/Artist Club razor/Shavette razor?
I've not shaved with a smiling razor. Is it very different from standard in that regard? Not much different. Seems it does a little better in depressions without having to stretch the skin too much. Doesn't cut quite as wide a swath on flatter parts of the face. Takes a little different technique t...

Re: Two Advice Questions: All comments welcome
First question: glass is my preference for eating and drinking from when appropriate. It seems to be the most inert. Ceramic is 2nd choice, plastic last. Wood only if nothing else available. Stainless is not an option unless it's already proven, or comes from a source that can be held accountable. S...

Re: Anyone use a Straight razor/Artist Club razor/Shavette razor?
The wade & butcher sharpened up like a dream despite being all uneven due to what looks like, someone with a sloppy dremel trying to clean it up. First shave was very good, very close, very smooth, almost zero chance of blood, as well as my boker. It doesn't give any audible feedback while shavi...

Re: Anyone use a Straight razor/Artist Club razor/Shavette razor?
I chopped and honed the IXL. It shaves well, I'm satisfied. I might try making a handle for it.
Got a tracking # from Colling.

Re: Anyone use a Straight razor/Artist Club razor/Shavette razor?
It's a mixed bag. For instance, the IXL (top left) has a cracked blade, which the seller didn't mention. Fortunately the crack is less than 1/2" from the tip. I'll cut that off and should have a very good 2-3/8" blade. The blade looks to have never been honed, very clean, minimal staining....
