Re: Serrata Camping!

Glad you got to get out and use your Serrata. I always thought it looked like a well designed knife. It is indeed! The long blade curve and that trailing point actually gives it a lot of cutting power. The width of the blade makes it easy to choke up on in a tight pinch grip for finer work. My only...

I second this! It's nice, short and a logical continuation of the line.

I like it! :)

Re: Serrata Camping!

Very cool review, PBJ. I love to see real-world examples of Spydercos in use. Job well done--it looks like you had a good time too. :) Thanks! I have long since passed the point where I can say that I use all my knives. ****, I don't even use all the good ones! Too many knives and too few things th...

Serrata Camping!

So, I took the excellent Serrata with me on a weekend camping trip a few weeks back and I thought I'd do a little write-up on the knife as well as post a few pictures! Here she is: http://www.ladda-upp.se/tumnagel/owwbtuiltxjmys/ The knife is a collaboration between Stuart Ackerman and Spydero and f...

Re: Serrata Arrived!

I carry mine horizontally on the right hip. This gives me an easy access to the blade while keeping it close to the body and out of the way when I move around in the woods. It also frees up my left hip for a large camp knife or a hatchet. I have a bunch of pics of the Serrata from a camping trip a c...

Re: New to knives, but found Spyderco

Hi and welcome to the forums! If you stick around for awhile, chances are your budding knife collection will grow exponentially! :D As for you questions: 1. Many people here will recommend the Sharpmaker and I agree that it's a great sharpening system. It's very easy to get into, especially if you'r...

Re: Sprint Runs Of Fixed Blade Spyders: It's About Time

I definitely second this notion. I'm a huge fan of fixed blade knives in general and if I could get away with it I would carry them more often on a daily basis but alas, choppers and camp knives tend to be frowned upon in most urban environments these days. ;) My latest Spyder is the Serrata and I'm...

Re: My newest and biggest Spydie

I recently picked up a Serrata myself and I couldn't be happier! It's a really impressive knife and everything from the F&F to the balance is superb. I'm sure it's gonna serve me well in the great outdoors and once I've tested it out I'll do a longer review/write up on it here. Ps, that leather ...

Re: Positron or Techno? Which to get... First.

For the record I don't own a Positron but I do have a Techno and if you ask me it might be one of the best EDC knives Spyderco has ever produced. Yes, It's that good! I spent months narrowing down my criteria for an EDC before getting the Techno and it really matches my every expectation. Don't let ...

Re: Gent's folder with blade length slightly less than 2.5 inches

Have you looked at the Pingu? The standard version is pretty plain but there's a titanium sprint that looks pretty sweet. Also, there are many third party custom scales for the Pingu. Great little slippie imo, even though it doesn't really fit all your criteria.

Re: Spyderco Gayle Bradley Tac 1

This one sorta came out of nowhere for me. Must have missed the rumors about it from last year but I'm very happy to see it just the same. It looks absolutely gorgeous! It's been awhile since I was this excited about a knife and I'm definitely picking one up when it drops!

The Rhino piqued my interest as well. I think it looks like a great little-big folder for EDC. It's definitely on my list and I'm hoping we'll get some more info soon.

Re: The Vrango folder

I received my Vrango in the mail a couple of days ago. It is a beautiful little knife! Pretty much the same size as the Peter Carey Firefly, another pretty Spyderco Collaboration. I like the CF in the Ti scales, gives just a little bit of traction. Fit and finish are excellent. I haven't had a chan...

Re: Szabo Folder Impressions

Good write up! The Szabo is certainly an interesting design and imo one of the more unique collaborations in the Spyderco lineup. It always catches my eye whenever I see a picture of it but so far I haven't handled one. I think it's a tad too big for my needs but who knows, maybe one day I'll add it...

I am very tempted to purchase the Para2 in Elmax but I need some feedback on this steel first.Does anyone have any idea how hard does Spyderco run their Elmax ? AFAIK Elmax performs very well above 61 HRC.I need all the data I can get.Thanx Hi! In my experience ELMAX is a very nice steel. It takes ...

Re: The Vrango folder

Hi guys, Well I think the knife is more suitable for EDC. It fits right in your pocket and the blade shape is very practical for daily chores. I use RWL-34 in my custom knives, but I really like this too. I did not think that a production knife could be so sharp out of the box but the edge on this ...

Re: Spyderco Hawkbill Blades: Much Misunderstood

Last summer, before going on a sailing trip from Sweden to Poland, I accidentally left my Techno on the nightstand at home and I ended up with only having a Harpy and my trusted Jumpmaster with me. Well, I used the Harpy full time as an EDC for three weeks and it completed every task with flying col...
