Bagheera, Welcome to the Spyderco Forum. The Military is my favorite knife for many reasons, but you should be happy with it. Spyderco's warranty service will take care of your problem, but contact them first before sending the knife back to Golden, Colorado. One way or the other, you pay for your t...

Welcome aboard the Spyderco Forum. We all have a common interest in knives, in general, and Spyderco products in specific. Don't be afraid to ask questions or give your point of view. I'm a big fan of the Military and the Lil Temperance, but I have other Spydercos which regularly make the "rota...

I loved the ‘pocket piranha’ moniker. I got my Lil Temperance at the New York Custom Knife Show back in November. My interest was in the new compression lock. However, I have been really impressed with this new design. This is an incredibly massive blade for a three inch blade. The change in scale c...

When I was in the Air Force during the late sixties, I got the old style pilots knife. It had both a switchblade (whick had failed) and a J shaped blade. The inside of the J shaped blade was the sharpened edge. As a practical tool, I was not very impressed, but it was cool looking. The J blade was u...

Last November, at the NY Knife show, I was intrigued by the compression lock, so I bought the Lil Temperance. The Leaf shape didn't appeal to me, as had seen it on the Bob Lum Chinese Folder and wasn't impressed. As the owner of many Spyderco knives combined with my curiousity about the compression ...

While I work in New Jersey, I choose to live in Pennsylvania where the gun laws make a lot more sense. The framers of the U.S. Constitution understood the need to defend oneself against criminals and tyrany. Over the years I've watched in horror as the rights of those in England, Australia and even ...

The two knives I've worn out the most are a K-55 cheapie from Solingen and a Schrade Walden large locking folder. The K-55 was the most common knife on my block in Brooklyn. With a swiss file one could get the action to be so easy that a simple flick of the wrist and the blade was open. I used that ...

You can't stress safety enough! 1. Teach how to open and close the knife, safely (Don't close the blade on your fingers). 2. Teach how to pass the knife, properly (that is handle first with the edge away from both of you). 3. Teach that the knife is a tool and not a weapon! Blade craft is a very adv...

I think getting drunk and handling knives or guns is a bad idea.

When you're sitting around a campfire with long time friends, you're playing music and you're not driving anywhere for a couple of days, that's a pretty good time.

One way or the other, you pay for your tools!

I have both a G-10 and a Carbon Fiber Civilian, and they are both beautiful knives. They are my prized possessions. One can easily wax poetic about these unusual looking knives, but . . . This is a very serious knife. You'll not look like a good guy if the police find you possessing the Civilian dur...

The Military is one heck of a knife! It is very light with great gripping G-10 scales (handles). It's also big. When you need a right sized knife, this is the one. Even though some people might be surprised or even upset by the size of the blade, it is my everyday carry. I also carry other Spyderco ...

Tool, Welcome to the Forum! My everyday carry is a Military with G-10 scales. I much prefer the G-10 handle material as it is light and strong, with a good grip to it. The Military just feels good to me. Lately I've been carrying the Lil Temperance when I travel to New Jersey. The three inch blade i...

Welcome to the Forum Louis315!

There was a wonderful knife called the Mariner which looks a lot like the Rescue.

The Mariner was discontinued about three years ago.

My friend Vito is looking for one, by the way.

I have seen the Civilian in action and it was unbelievably amazing. The aggressor had been drinking and tried to provoke a fight. Things remained calm until there was a clear unprovoked attempted assault with a heavy object. The victim avoided the assault and moved behind the abusive individual with...

Deac and Rger No. 1,

While the book is pricey, I'm afraid I'll have to get it as I have way too many Spydies to not have the book.

I have a Lil Temperance which I love. This knife has a compression lock. The compression lock has steel in between steel and is every bit as strong as a lockback mechanism. Further, I find the compression lock easier to use than the lockback (almost easier than the Walker lock). One way or the other...

Welcome to the forum Demtec9. You've got a great collection! You have quite a few knives I don't have, but I'd like to recommend a few blades: o The Bob Terzuola Starmate is being discontinued - this would be the time to get one. It's such a pretty knife! o Two that have the same basic blade shape -...

Beach Bum, Welcome to the Forum. I love my Starmate. It is a regular in my knife rotation - that is I regularly carry the knife when its turn comes up. I had the chance to meet with many of the craftsmen who work in the Golden, Colorado USA facility. They have tremendous pride in their work. For example, the guys that sharpen the blades don't have any hair left on their arms and necks. This is due to the fact that they test how sharp the blades are...
