Mine has the same blemish. The pin also has a corresponding mark on it. The strange thing is that the blade does not contact the pin at all, not even when I squeeze it. I speculate that the blade contacted the pin before the compression lock was adjusted fully. But that's just a guess. <a href=http:...

making the pilgrimage
I'll be in Denver the middle of Feb and plan on visiting Spyderco. Do they have tours? I'll have to stop by SFO too. Unfortunately, my cash situation may warrant merely a trinket as a keepsake. <a href=http://www.spyderco.com/forum/Topic.asp?topic_id=6200&forum_id=7&Topic_Title=Terms%2Bused%...

I've cut the plastic top of a Ramune bottle to get to the glass marble inside. Ramune is a Japanese soda, sorta like sprite, that's very popular w/ kids. The bottle is pinched in the middle and the soda is kept in by pressure on a glass marble. You open the drink by using a plastic top to push down ...

First sydie bought 1994: Black FRN Rescue (w/ plastic clip). I think I paid $50-60 at a knife and tool shop (I think) in Maine (near Bangor). I wanted something lightweight that I could carry clipped to my pocket and open one-handed. The sheepsfoot design appealed to me because it didn't look threat...

I rarely have load problems (partial T-1) running XP on 1.2 Ghz processor w/ 256 Mg of RAM. When I do encounter a problem I reload (F5 or click the link again). I experience no noticeable difference between this and the BF site. But this could be because of my computer's power or the connection, or ...

Righty here. I can deploy knives left handed, but rarely cut with them in left. I taught myself to brush my teeth and eat left handed (even with chopsticks!). When I was first learning to write Japanese, I started with my left hand. It wasn't much worse than my right. Unfortunately, I switched and l...

Rescue 93mm for many boxes, as well as shaving the imperfections off a poorly manufactured plastic bigwheel (plain edge worked well). PE Vesuvius carried through the rest of the stuff, 'cause it was always on-hand. And a Leatherman Wave for the plastic and wires. <a href=http://www.spyderco.com/foru...

Toothed> A tactical knife usually does not refer (solely) to the knife being ideal for combat. That's why the Civilian didn't make it. A good tactical knife can see hard use in the field and is expected to be a working blade. Of course it should also be easily applicable as a weapon, but that is not...

I'd be surprised if spydeco stopped production on the vesuvius. I just got mine and it was backordered (read: not manufactured yet). Unless that was the last run ... <EDIT> just checked BF, yeah, Sal says production stopped, reengineering taking place. I should know better than to start typing befor...

Distall taper: Smooth taper on the spine of the blade from hilt to point. This is found most often on flat grind blades. Full Tang: For fixed blades, this means the tang (the metal part of the blade that connects it to the handle) goes all the way through the handle. Cut down tang blades are lighter...

daisho
Daisho is a Japanese term that describes the samurai practice of carrying both a long sword (katana) and a short sword (wakizashi). It literally means "long-short" and comes from the roots of those two words. I always try to carry both a serrated knife and a plain edge knife so that I'm pr...

With the cord pulled through a lanyard hole, make one side the standing part and the other the running part. Since I'm right handed, I'd make t...

For me, function is paramount, but aesthetics always factors in. I have a dislike for clip points (chinook, buck 110, renagade/blackhawk). I doubt they operate any less effectively than a drop point or modified clip point in most circumstances. And I'm sure clip points excel in certain situations. I...
