Re: Least liked thing about a favored Spydie

I'd like if the Lil Temp 3 was able to drop shut like a PM2 (or other Golden compression locks). Has anyone with a Lil Temp 3 been able to do it without significant blade play? I haven't seen it done. Seems to just be how Seki City makes the compression lock. It's definitely smooth, but you need a s...

Re: Least liked thing about your best Spydie(s)

I love my Caribbean, but I hate reaching for the choil that isn’t there. I don't understand this. The finger guard is right up against the edge of the blade and your finger is just as close as any finger choil could possibly be on those models. I assume it's just habit? Now it kind of makes s...

BD1N vs S30V vs VG10 interesting result from cut test

Cedric & Ada Gear and Outdoors just put up a video today. His testing system puts VG10 at 260, BD1N at 375, and S30V at 425. So the edge retention of BD1N seems to be right between those two Spyderco steel staples. That "old and boring" S30V proves itself again! I'm really grateful for...

Sounds like you are describing a Para 3/PM2...lol :)
Yea really. If a choil would be added, it would just be like everything else.

Re: Would you buy a Golden, CO USA EARTH Made Tenacious Lightweight?

Yep. If it just had a compression lock, and a nice finger choil. G10 scales, a bit more point to the blade, Made in Golden, Colorado. Might be a good thing. People would buy it. Noooo. The lack of a choil is what makes the Polestar great. A choil would ruin it and there would be no point to even ma...

Re: Would you buy a Golden, CO USA EARTH Made Tenacious Lightweight?

Sounds like I need a Polestar! I will add that to my list of wants. I still want a Golden Made Tenacious LW with Grey FRN, liner lock, wire clip, and DLC CPM-CRUWEAR though! :) The only negatives I can say about it is that mine has a fairly soft detent (which seems to be common) and the cutout for ...

Re: Would you buy a Golden, CO USA EARTH Made Tenacious Lightweight?

I think a Polestar or Tenacious with a compression lock and better steel would be, hands-down, the best Spyderco knife that exists. I'd prefer the Polestar design because of the slightly more spacious handle. And even if they stuck with BD1 and made in China, it would still be great. I really think ...

Re: The world needs more rounded/contoured/polished G10

Doesn't have to be completely rounded for me. I just like to see good chamfering instead of squared edges. I find it hard to believe most people want 90 degree edges on G10 scales. The Lil Temp 3 I got has a perfect chamfer.

I can't help but think that such a special knife would be well served with something like S90V, or maybe M4 etc.
I don't think they'd use non-stainless steel like M4 for a knife meant for food prep.

I'm not a native english speaker either.. :) I am also not sure that it's called 'web'. Anyway, the pic kinda says it all I'm born and raised in the US and I've never heard that part of the palm called a "web" either. I always heard of the skin between your thumb and index finger called t...

Re: Gone too Soon - Manix Backlock Deserves a 2nd Chance!

I think saying it's downfall was black g10 and S30V isn't entirely correct. The common complaints we heard were that it's $140 price was $30 more than a cbbl manix (which many people didn't understand), it didn't have liners, and it had a thick handle. Sure the hardcore fans were still interested, b...

Re: Poll for Folding MULE - UKPK

I think a UKPK is the worst possible option... until the next poll is made for a Higonokami mule. The point of the mules is to test all aspects of the steel for future models. There are many things you simply cannot do with a non-locking knife (and things you shouldn't do to folders in general), and...

Re: Does it bother anyone else...?

This thread is a little mind-blowing. I really didn't think there was such a debate on what a front flipper is. To me, it's very simple. If a Smock/Ikuchi is called a front flipper, than how would you make the distinction between those and a knife that you flip from the "front front"? :con...

Re: Mulling over the Mule

Basically people have to commit to buying them all (credit card info given up front). Realistically, 99% would be going to rich collectors then. It seems like people just want a bunch of popular folding sprints rather than a constructive mule program. The only way I see this program really being be...

I would try a strop first. No need to remove steel prematurely.

Wouldn't a bent tip just gouge the leather?

A Para 3 LW would be a good choice now though because you can compare to all of the Para 3 exclusives in all of the many steels.

They would essentially be Para 3 sprints then. No difference, really.
