Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

Any idea how thin these are behind the edge compared to a regular PM2?

Re: Mantra 2 ??

I had one and sold it. There were many things I liked about it but there are to many other knives that are just a bit better to make me not hold onto it. Love the steel, the handle to blade ratio, the design, the handle material. Did not love the flipping.

Re: Affordable fixed blade (AFK)

It depends if you are willing to do some work on it. I would check out Brisa, especially in Europe, Elmax, AEB-L, 80CRV2 in blank forms. I really like Lauri PT blades.

I would recommend looking around for a mule, PD#1 and put some micarta on it.

I'd love to have a blank available to play with.

Re: Best Western books

Kenneth Robert's books, especially The Northwest Passage is great. I'd also throw in Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose. Out west but not a "western" as you are envisioning it.

Re: What’s Your Favorite Underrated Sleeper Knife?

I would look to some of the stainless models that have been in production the longest such as the SS police. There are many models of Spydercos purchased and kept in production that are not really high on the radar screen.

Re: ZDP-189 vs. K390 on the E4 platform

Both are excellent steels with just about the same edge holding capacity. I would take K390 out of personal preference as I think it is slightly easier to sharpen but it will patina. I have not experienced patina on ZDP-189. I can't recall if the ZDP-189 is laminated or not on the E4.

Re: PM A11 vs k390 edge geometry and experience

Hello Skidoosh, Although I dont own any K390 (yet) I have several pma11 mules. I have chipped a couple in different spots, few around the 1st inch of the tip and one around the "belly". These chips were due to my clumsiness dropping them on the garage floor while fitting handles, however ...

PM A11 vs k390 edge geometry and experience

Hello All,
I'm working on getting a handle on my pm A11 mule. I hear it mentioned that K390 is a bit tougher than PM A11. Has anyone experienced chipping or issues with a PM A11 edge as compared to K390 or what has your experience been? I plan on going 30 degrees inclusive with the edge.

Re: Purchase limits on Sprints/Exlusives

Several sprints are still hanging on. For everyone that sells out in seconds I see several that don't. K390 at Bento is still around, 52100 Manix was around at Knifeworks for quite a while, even the PD#1 mules seemed to take forever to sell out despite the thirst for CruWear. It is really hard to pr...

I mean theres already one in g10. In a great looking scale color as well.
Yes there is :) I own one and it has become one of my favorites. However, it is a dealer exclusive. Delicas were also produced in g10 but it has been the LW version that has really taken off.

LW Para 3 K390

I've seen a few requests and wishes for a para 3 LW in k390. It was not in the last reveal but any thoughts if this would be a sprint or production model?

Re: Does k390=end of zdp189?

No, the reason is ZDP-189 is a Japanese sourced steel and I think it would be easier to source for many of the Japanese sourced knives over K390.

Re: Z-max vs. Z-wear

Ok, 8th grade algebra was traumatic for me. My understanding of the transitive property brings up issues. What I am understanding is Z-wear+PD#1=CPMCruwear. Z-max=Maxamet.

Z-max vs. Z-wear

I'm seeing the new shaman in the reaveal with Z-wear PM steel. In Larrin's article Z-max steel is the in the upper tier. Could someone help me understand the difference between z-wear and z-max?
thanks
