Re: Inusual materials
The issue with many of the exotic materials is one of toughness. Ceramic has extreme wear resistance but can it support the kind of geometry we as knife geeks want? There are Cermets and Carboloys that have the same toughness of Maxamet and similia with doubled the wear resistance. Maxamet it's a s...

Re: Inusual materials
What benefit is there to be had by doing this- Sounds like a push for different for the sake of difference sake which in my mind is unnecessary. If one of these alloys provide a benefit over a steel that would be different but I haven’t seen these benefits mentioned. Higher wear resistance, and som...

0920.
It costs a little more but it's the best.

Re: Inusual materials
Hey "supracor" it's interesting that you mentioned Cermet because I actually had a BOKER model a few years back that had a CERMET blade that I ended up trading. But the short time I played with it I actually kind of liked it. With all the advances in metallurgy and ceramics both it probab...

Re: Inusual materials
Edit: just realized it was you that tested one. And if you have 1500 dollars to throw away and looking for the everlasting working edge I suggest you buy one ;) I actually pondered buying the TCK. It’s only $300. Are they be sharpenable on traditional equipment? I tend to struggle with S110v so if ...

Re: Inusual materials
Mate... How can you criticize something without having tried it? ok, Bronze will have only 30 hrc (to be verified, and moreover there are many types of bronze) but it is not horse $hit and if you have not tried it you can not come here and say that the result would necessarily suck. the post was no...

Re: Inusual materials
@supracor: Am I allowed to post MY opinion here? Seems not.... You can say whatever you want, but it would be better if your words would be inherent to the question that i have asked. The bronze question is not the point. I would know if you all would want to see some other alloys in Spydercos. May...

Re: Inusual materials
Tell me one of these alloys. Tell me just one that doesn't have significant drawbacks or its incredibly expensive or even coming close to matching the performance of top steels. The only exotic "alloy" that is worth mentioning is Ferro-Titanit, which is still kind of a borderline steel I ...

Re: Inusual materials
Bronze has a hardness of HRC 30. What do you want to do with it? Cut butter and cake? It the alloy behaves like steel I am in. I want a knife that cuts and can be resharpened. Art projects are not my thing ;-) Bronze was used in swords/knives/axes before iron. I don't think that all these swords ar...

Inusual materials
I am truly interested to see how other alloys works in the knife world; i've already heard good reviews of some Ti-6Al-4v choppers, Stellite6k blades and Nitinol knives, but alloys don't end here.
Therefore i ask you:
What alloy (that isn't a steel) do you want to see in a Spyderco?

Re: Ronin 2 in 204P
If you want Farid makes choppers in T1, D3,10V and 121REX; so you don't need to resharpen them :rolleyes:Naperville wrote: ↑Wed Aug 22, 2018 6:02 pmI'll take my M390 knife from Bradford in to the woods, if none are available from Spyderco.

Re: Ronin 2 in 204P
In a bad situation (TEOTWAWKI, Grid Down or simply lost in the woods) you might be forced out of your bug-in to another role on the road, and carrying 50lbs in a rucksack is expected. Carrying a small sharpener might be possible, but better yet would be a knife that holds an edge because sharpening...

Re: Wear Resistance vs Hardness?
I try to explain you in my own way. All that I write is what I have understood, so if I'm wrong, the responsibility is mine. In the steel there are 2 parts: a Fe-C phase and the Carbides. When a non alloyed steel contains more than ~6.7% C all the Fe-C phases became Cohenite, well known as Cementite...
