Re: One for trouble and one for fun?

I generally only carry one knife at a time, and these days, self defense is the furthest thing from my mind when I pick what to carry. Seems foolish to think I'm going to be in any way effective in a knife fight when I have yet to do any training. I've seen a few action movies though, so same thing ...

Re: Chinese Spyderco's

The Astute that I had would easily rival either Taiwan or US made models in fit and finish. If not for the steel used and "China " on the blade, I think you'd be hard pressed to tell where it was made.

I feel like a caveman. I just hold the knife at a different angle.

Re: Rockjumper opinions?

I just recently sold mine. Not because I didn't like it, but because I ultimately found that the wharncliffe blade was not my preference for all around use. It's ground very thin, and is a great cutter, but I find I like having a little bit of belly in my blade. It's also a bit tall in the closed po...

Re: Has any knife made you stop buying knives?

... unlined, solid FRN handles and as far as I know, the only options for those in the Spyderco lineup are the Dragonfly and the Centofante. I thought the Salt, Pac Salt, etc., were solid FRN. They're definitely unlined. That Boye knife is a brute. Reading about it made me wish I had anywhere near ...

Re: Has any knife made you stop buying knives?

Does it count if it isn't a Spyderco? If so, the Boye folding boat knife has pretty much killed my urge to buy any other knives. It has a lot of characteristics of my favorite era of Clipits, namely the solid FRN handle, very simple construction, and it's rustproof to boot. It's also choil free, has...

Re: Why no more linerlock variants ?

Serious question from this lefty to other lefties: Will someone please describe the proper way for a lefty to close a comp-lock folder with his left hand? I need advice! I just use my left thumb to disengage the lock, then use my index finger to swing the blade closed. Honestly, I find Comp locks e...

Re: Blade length is not everything

For me, a blade length of 2.5-3" is perfect. That size blade is usually accompanied by a handle that still allows me to get a full 4 finger grip while not hogging all the space in my pocket. I find that most everyday tasks (opening boxes, cutting them down, opening mail, cutting apples, etc..) ...

Re: SNAP-IT™ SALT® FRN/KRATON C26YL

I had no interest at all in the Snap-It until this thread and another I just saw. I'm curious how well the Kraton inserts hold up over time, and whether the clip gets in the way when using the blade.

Re: Salt Snap-it shackle removal

Interesting, I didn't realize the carabiner was removable. I have always wondered why Spyderco put it on the pivot end. Less chance of accidental blade opening that way?

That ship has sailed for me. I have no interest in the PM2, its related models or its variations.

Re: FRN Strength / Durability

Over and over (and over), I find myself thinking, "This knife would be even better in FRN. Preferably linerless." Preferably a Salt steel, too, but that's a whole 'nuther discussion. :cheap-sunglasses I say that all the time, for just about everything now. If I did it over again, I wouldn...

Re: Manbug Leaf

Personally I'd love a dark, denim blue, but I understand that's usually reserved for certain steels. I'm just curious to see what it ends up looking like. The main reason I've avoided the stock Manbug was because of the belly, so a blade that's sort of a midpoint between the wharncliffe and stock ve...

Re: Manbug Leaf

I'm curious to see how it shapes up. I recently got rid of my Manbug Wharncliffe because the whole thing was so tall when closed. Hi StuntZombie, It's just as tall when closed as the Wharncliffe. It's needed to handle the large hole and keep it easily accessible for one hand open. The spine is the ...

Re: A question for Sal regarding the Rockjumper

Hi Marius, Sorry to disappoint you. Eric and I discussed the modification last week and decided that the new tooling would be very expensive for the very small amount gained. Besides, sales on the Rock Jumper have not been stellar. The Leaf Jumper was just approved and we'll see if the Leaf version...
