TenGrain: That sounds ideal. Have you treated any SS with it, can I see what it looks like? (Ten's link if you want to see the product line: https://www.epi.com/black-oxide)
I have some I ordered a while back for some bicycle parts I fabricate but haven't used it yet.

Re: Darkening/greying/blackening stainless clips

I have some black oxide solution specifically made for stainless steel made by a local company called EPI, in Wisconsin. It was designed for architectural purposes but works well on small parts.

Re: Help me pick my new Spyderco knife.

Hey, the Manix XL and Native Chief are high on the list of favorite knives for me.

I voted for the Chief because I prefer the backlock to the CBBL. But both are great knives!

You still haven't mentioned what the issue is with the grind, besides that it's different from a regular Manix 2.

If you upload the photos to a site like Flickr, it will generate BB code for you to paste into a post here.

Re: Native Chief Rex 45 ??

I have both (a Police 4 KnifeWorks exclusive with the Pakkawood scales and an S30V Chief). If I had to choose between the two, I'd choose the Chief, but I love both of them. Handle ergonomics: The scales are not too different in shape and height. The main difference is that when you get to the botto...

Re: Native Chief Rex 45 ??

I caved a couple months ago and bought a regular production S30V Chief. Glad I did - it's a brilliant knife and I've liked having it, even though I had planned to wait on the Rex45. Jury's out on whether I'll plunk down the money for the Rex45 when it comes out. Probably not, even though I do want t...

Re: Ti Pacific Salt

I would want something with grippy texturing on a Salt knife. If you're expecting it to get wet then titanium wouldn't be a very grippy scale.

Titanium Paramilitary 2!
There's all manner of companies that make titanium scales for the PM2. I feel like Spyderco should focus their resources on new model development and cranking out their current popular knives rather than spend time working on something that already exists.

Re: The illustrious vertical thumb ramp, why...

One thing I've noticed is the thumb ramp tends to put the Spyder hole further out from the center of the knife than those models without it. This means the hole is more to the side of the pivot than underneath it, which makes flipping the knife open using the hole easier.

Enjoy the Native. I also find it to be one of the most ergonomic Spyderco knives out there, along with the Native Chief and Manix XL.

Re: 1st Impressions Of The New SpyOpera

I like the design and love backlocks, but for me I need a finger choil or larger ricasso a la the Endura if it's going to be a backlock. I like one-handed closing so I need to be able to get my finger under easily when dropping it.

Re: lil native lightweight update? Para 3 tanto?

Isn't the purpose of a tanto to be stout for hard use? Hard for me to imagine that meshing with a small folder like the Para 3. Or is it a style thing?

Re: What do you think of metal handles?

Unappealing to me. They work ok but to me are inferior to composites in weight, price, grip, thermal conductivity, etc... I live in Wisconsin which means 8 months of winter a year. I don't like having cold metal in my pockets or my hands. I think titanium has a "cool factor" for a lot of p...

Re: Spyderco manufacturing certification?

Sal- No disagreement here that certifications can definitely be a racket. One example is my company having to spend many thousands of dollars to have the plastics on our device tested for bio-toxicity by a fancy third party testing house. These are standard resins that are common and have been teste...

Swords slice really well if you have the right geometry with enough mass and velocity at the right point on the blade to carry the blade through the target. LMAO!
