Re: Sal, anything you´d like to share on the Golden made BACKLOCK Polestar? (Another "handle forward" knife?)

Personally, I’d like to see if any of the Chinese makers have gotten to the point where they can successfully pull off a compression lock! I'd love that. I said it before.... a Polestar with a compression lock would be the greatest knife ever made. It would have everything. The best lock, the "...

Re: Two questions to Sal about aluminium scales

My opinion is they use their exclusives as loss leaders to lock in customer habits so they'll pick them before another store for all their purchases; not just the unique versions. This is definitely an example of BHQ taking a reduced profit to increase customer attachment. It's called a loss leader...

Re: Two questions to Sal about aluminium scales

Kershaw had the Link in both aluminum (with milled chamfers) and in FRN. Before they were discontinued, the Aluminum was $49 and the FRN was $39. I think it's safe to say aluminum scales are more expensive to make.

I am planning to buy the Salt 2...but I am looking for a blade at least twice as wide. Maybe wait for a Native 5 Salt with LC200N to get back in stock. Caribbean is also good. The thickness for the regular Salt 2 is 0.098" (2.5mm). Thickness for the Native 5 Salt is 0.125" (3.2mm). Thickn...

Re: Has the Paramilitary 2 ship sailed?

The Marbled Carbon Fiber Elmax exclusive has an MSRP of $310 so I think MAP would be $217 but they're asking $229.95 which might be (is) hurting sales. I think they could also advertise it for cheaper than MAP since it's an exclusive, right? I don't think MAP applies for exclusives. But seeing the ...

Re: Where does the steel come from?

Don't let politics and xenophobia deter you from Chinese products, though. There is value and craftsmanship to be found in China, as well as innovation. Even if you dislike the Chinese government... Having a dislike for the Chinese government doesn't make anyone "phobic" of them. You shou...

Re: G10 Inlay In Choil To Circumvent Blade Length Limitations

I'd think that if you attach something to the blade, then it's still considered the blade. By your logic, someone can just wrap a piece of tape around the tang and claim it's no longer part of the blade. I agree with the other guy that said to extend the actual handle itself.

I concur! The Astute has 3mm more edge than a Manix2. That's pretty ridiculous to think about, considering how petite the Astute is.
Same with the Lil Temperance 3. It has the same edge length (2.9") as the Manix, but the Lil Temp is about 3/4" shorter in overall length.

Re: Is MAP pricing % changing come 2022?

One made in China and the other made in the US. My point is the price and tool quantity difference is so drastic that I think only a real knife "enthusiast" will buy a knife like that these days. It's not something the average person will be able to justify, even to people who seek US mad...

Re: Is MAP pricing % changing come 2022?

Spyderco knives were recommended for everyone who needed a tool. Now they are expensive toys for enthusiasts. It's definitely hard to recommend to the average guy who just bought a well stocked tool kit for under $200 that they should buy a PM2 for the same price. It's an enthusiast market for sure...

The Pakistan mystery pot metal knives and the awful $10 MTech steel that clogs a stone after a few passes and gets dull after slicing a few sheets of paper.

Here's a good video on that cheap MTech steel.

Re: BD1N toughness

I think most consumers are curious about how a steel will perform for them in the knives in which it is commonly available. Larrin's testing here is not modelling that. Yes, there are issues with anecdotal reporting, personal biases, etc. It's also important to account for blade geometry, what a pe...

How in the world can flicking open a knife be considered "abuse"? There are tons of knives, even some Spyderco knives, that have a flipper tab as the only method of opening it... which is identical to the force of flicking open a knife using the hole. And then you have companies like Kersh...

Re: New Knife Steel Ratings by Knife Steel Nerds

1. VG-10 is a pretty underrated steel. It has the same toughness and edge-retention as s30v, with only a bit worse edge retention. That's a strange way to write it. It's not the same edge retention. On a scale of 0-10, he has VG-10 as a 4.5 and S30V as a 6. That's a substantial jump in edge retenti...
