Re: Phil Wilson Thoughts on Steels

If you haven't done so, can you please take a moment and what was your biggest takeaway or two from the articles? For me, it was the fact that a) Many of our tests for capability of steel are severely flawed, either in concept or execution b) The performance of many of our "inferior" and &...

Re: Phil Wilson Thoughts on Steels

Could you link us to the articles? Sounds interesting! Apparently not, as I thought I had; moreover, that was the entire point of my post. My puktarditude just dwarfs all which I encounter. http://www.seamountknifeworks.com/articles.htm In my defense: I haven't slept for a few days now because of s...

Phil Wilson Thoughts on Steels

Agree, disagree - doesn't matter. The articles are thought provoking. I like the fact that they move beyond the realm of cutting cardboard.

Keep in mind: they are not gospel, just Phil Wilson's views. Definitely worth reading, digesting, and reading again.

Interesting & Timely Review of a Nirvana

Nick Shabazz gives us a look at a modded Nirvana. The single mod: a regrind by Josh from Razor Edge. This is timely in light of the discussions about steel types taking place. I think some of you just might start singing along with me: Steel types are nice S110v, s90v, s30v, s35v Steel types are gra...

Re: Reprofiling with the Sharpmaker

Thank you for this clear and concise sharpening guide. Really, thank you. I will try it in the next few days as I have been getting discouraged with my non-improving sharpening skill. You are welcome. I'll also say that if you have any questions, feel free to ask - there is a lot of collective know...

Re: Reprofiling with the Sharpmaker

How does this sound? Its taking me over 1000 strokes each side (corners), for an approximate 40* to 30* re-profile of a VG10 Cricket. These diamond rods are still newish, with only one corner having been used for the most part. Sounds like your wrists will be in good shape when you're done. T...

I use a spray bottle set to a fine mist & periodically mist the Sharpmaker.

Re: Reprofiling with the Sharpmaker

I like Simple Green. I use it a lot at work. Be advised that one thing it does not do is rinse clean. It leaves a residue that can be sticky and require scrubbing to remove. Just a little something I've found using it extensively for a few years. There is another thing to know: Simple Green will di...

Re: Reprofiling with the Sharpmaker

My one long time complaint and/or disappointment concerning Spyderco's 204 Sharpmaker is the lack of an extra-coarse aggressive stone for the unit that is capable of quick stock removal for really beat up blades. I've owned and used the diamond stone for years>> actually I've worn out two set of th...

Re: Reprofiling with the Sharpmaker

Hi dubbya, sounds like you got quite a keen edge there. ;) Congrats! I like a very sharp but toothy edge for all my fish cleaning work. Goes right through scale and bone when a more refined edge will want to slide on the surface. Out of curiosity, were you sharpening at 40 degrees? You said the ori...

Reprofiling with the Sharpmaker

While I used the CBN rods, I think my observation should apply to diamond rods as well. Essentially, I recall reading somewhere to spray the rod with a fine mist of water to prevent excessive wear and particle loss. In Wayne Goddard's book, he advocates using a mixture of Simple Green and water in p...

Re: Anyone else surprised RFP carry is so common?

Tru-Spec cargo pants, special knife pocket on each leg at 3 and 9 o'clock. Unfortunately, only a skinny knife like the Caly will fit in it though. I have actually picked up a few pairs of the Tru-Spec 24-7s and really like them. Is that the model you have? I can carry pretty much every knife in my ...

Re: Anyone else surprised RFP carry is so common?

I carry my smaller blade RFP, and my larger blade LFP most times.

A question for the IWB, watch pocket, sheath/pouch, and hip pocket carries: does the Emerson Wave deploy with these carry methods?

Endura all stainless, SE, circa 2000. Memories of jobs, mills, and better times. Szabo Folder BattleStation -The above two will always remind me of getting back into the knife world. Re: 5 Spydercos I have never regretted buying

Huh. I really love all of my knives and I don't regret any of them in the least. Most of these also have sentimental value, because most of them were for some sort of occasion (birthdays, Xmas, Father's Day, etc.) or a couple were random gifts from the wife. So I'll try, but this is hard. [knocked ...

That's why when I decided to run a fundraiser for the cancer organization called The MPN Support Foundation, I turned to Spyderco; that's why Spyderco knives are featured as the top two prizes for that fundraiser. I have, according to the director of development for the foundation, raised awareness ...

Re: Police4 pics and impressions

Good job on the review, sir. I lost all patience last week (just one of those weeks) and had to do something about it, so I decided "Screw it, I'm buying the Tatanka, and then I can hold off on the Police 4".

Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the Police 4 budgeted, lol.

Re: Tatanka Lock Help

With the lock fully engaged and blade open, the cam's back edge is now sitting at a lower plane than the front edge. The clicking is much more subdued. It looks like this has something to do with various parts' positions when the handle screws are tightened down. I'm done wottying about it. Excelle...

Would that one knife be the Tatanka or the Chinook 4?

Counting is getting to be as hard as spelling and grammar.
