Re: pros and cons of cladded "supersteel"?

The solid steel itself would probably be more expensive and, even if it was not, it would be harder to work with, increasing cost of manufacture, assuming the company making the knives could even work with it. Thanks! So in practical use it would have no advantages, rather disadvantages, as I assum...

Re: Poll: Who´d like to see a non rustproof, in return budgetfriendly Caribbean?

I, on the other hand, don't mind sacrificing a bit of blade length in order to have a knife with a usable 50/50 choil. I'm also not a fan of wrong handed locks. Not crazy about striped handles either, so my interest in the Caribbean could best be described as non-existent. If I wanted another folde...

Poll: Who´d like to see a non-totally-rustproof, in return budgetfriendly Caribbean?

Probably still my all-time favorite folder is the Endura. Now the Caribbean looks like a knife, that eliminates the few flaws I find in the Endura, when I am very nitpicky. - Sacrifices practically no cutting edge to Ricasso or choil - Has a more handfilling handle, I assume Other than that, it feat...

pros and cons of cladded "supersteel"?

Taking my HAP40/sus4 Endura as an example, I´d like to ask the experts out there: - What would be the advantages, if the blade was made of a solid block of HAP40 and not be cladded with sus4 - other than it would not get scratched up that easy (which I don´t mind at all)? - In my limited understandi...

Re: Which Spyderco fits you?

And once more the Shaman gets mentioned and once more I have to mention it too ;) .. don't own, just handled one, was blown away by the ergos and the perfect fit and feel in hand (mine are between L and XL). And that despite most of the specs are screaming " not your type of knife"... ;)

You guys almost get me wanting to try a SE Spyderco! ;)
Try a comboedge! I know there is not much liking for it out there, but for my needs it does just fine.

Re: Sharpening Services In Southern California?

Hi John, very recently there was (and still IS of course) the thread "sharpmaker and new knifes". I'd encourage you to have a look at it should you choose to get a sharpmaker, some valuable info there. I'd second the suggestion to do the sharpening yourself by using a sharpmaker. I myself ...

Re: Custom scales pics.

I know Cuscadi has done dragonfly scales in the past. Have you asked them? No, I have not. Is that his name here on the board? Let me answer this: It's a German company that does pretty good custom-scales. I have an Endura with their micarta-, and a Millie with their wooden scales. www.cuscadi.de

Re: Thinking about the Shaman

The Shaman got my attention right out of the gate. I nearly snagged one. But I don’t think it aligns well with my actual needs. A big thick handle like that is great if you’re doing a lot of cutting. For people like me that just cut a few things here and there there isn’t much benefit to a thick, h...

Re: Would you be interested in a Spyderco Hudson Bay camp knife?

I am not sure what steel Camillus used in the 70's for their KA-BAR pattern knife, but it was a very good choice IMO. I have (ab)used that poor Camillus for everything from throwing to batoning to opening cans, so in spite of it most likely not being a fancy-schmancy new fangled super steel, it wou...

Re: Stretch 1 / Stretch 2 - a little nostalgia and wouldn´t there be a place for both of them?

I have Stretch 1 in Super Blue, HAP-40 and ZDP-189,,, awaiting V-Toku2 for comparison. Regards, FK So you get the Stretch TWO (and not ONE) in V-Toku? Would be great if you could report back how you like the ergos and the blade shape compared to the Stretch 1. Do not want to repeat myself, but poin...

Re: How delicate is the Chaparral really? And is it for trailrunning (waistband-carry)?

where do you carry it in your waistband? i carry mine at around 3:30 and it never bothers me while running. it’s even okay there when doing ab workouts on the ground. i don’t know that a shorter knife is more prone to creep out of your waistband in general, but the dragonfly is. the clip has it rid...

Re: Sharpmaker and new knifes

Another advice (one of the few I can possibly give, beeing not a master of sharpening myself... ;) ): For me, in the beginning, it was easyer in order to keep the blade totally perpendicular while using the sharpmaker (thats essential to keep the 20 or 15 degree angle) by standing up and looking DOW...

Re: Would you be interested in a Spyderco Hudson Bay camp knife?

The Skrama is, to my knowledge based on a Seax :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seax My point is that for its intended use, i feel the Finnish Skrama or Condor knife would be preferable to a "pretty" knife i'd baby because i wouldn't want to ruin it. As a collector's item it would fall ou...

2. Not enough people know about this model. All you'd have to do is get more people to hold that knife and it'll make them want one. Can only second that word for word. Stated that in two previous posts in other threads already: The Shaman was a BIG surprise for me. By it´s specs REALLY not the kni...

i also carry a pacific salt in my running shorts. the first thing i thought when i got mine in hand for the first time was that i couldn’t believe how light it was. it disappears in the waistband while still being long enough for me to not worry about it working it’s way out. it’s also big enough f...

Re: Would you be interested in a Spyderco Hudson Bay camp knife?

A Skrama is hard to beat, pricewise and quality wise ... I voted for NO. No offense, but just imho the Skrama is not something really comparable to a Spydie - Hudson Bay camp knife Well, the Skrama exists and you can work with it. A Spyderco version is only fiction at this moment. Therefore I wonde...
