Re: Best Spyderco for Backpacking

Depends on the area. For fighting thick vegetation, a Tasman SE would be my pick. But if the trail is in a good shape anything small and light is fine. A Native or just a Dragonfly even. Definitely use a lanyard + shackle to secure it.

Re: If you could have any knife in magnacut, why would you opt for another steel?

I think kennethsime summed it up well.. And with only Magnacut, life would be boring and my collection would be less than third of its size. I would have probably only two Natives (PE+SE) and not five, only one Chief and not two, only two Millies (Ti+G10) and not three, I probably wouldn't own a PM2...

Re: EDC show and tell. What do you pair with your spyderco knives?

It took a while, but my base EDC seem to have settled on this setup: https://everydaycarrot.net/onewebmedia/13696B44-2FC2-494A-8834-C53E51EB8334.jpeg I do rotate between watches (I'm a recovering watch addict, so even though I have stopped buying there's quite a few to choose from), but there's onl...

Re: I prefer the Native Chief Over the Millie.

I agree, but still, although I have the CF S90V Native Chief, the Fluted Ti Millie will always be my nicest, most loved Spyderco (and the Fluted Native #2). For me, only a Native Chief Fluted Ti could best the Millie.

I could see the Magnut happening (and yeah, instant buy). Not sure about the 15v with the BBB heat treat. Would love it, but wonder about the logistics.

True, good point. Even S45V or Spy27 would be fine. So many good steels, impossible to go wrong. :-)

Sage 2 in Magnacut or 15V would be perfection. Instant buy.

Re: Chaparral

I will sound boring, but I would like plain jane stonewashed titanium scales. And more wood, amboina, yew, cedar burl, they are all beautiful. More natural materials in general and less petrochemicals.

Re: New to forum

I own all and love them all, but I prefer backlocks to compression locks and I prefer a humpless blade, so the Native is #1 in my book. No love for the Shaman? I think for hard use, fixed blades are the best and I think the Shaman is a bit bulky and heavy for a pocket knife. I usually EDC 3" T...

Re: Convexed 15V

I used my 3V Aurora 2 (Bark River) for many months in the kitchen as the only knife and it performed very well, until I cubed some beef legs recently. It took ten minutes of stropping on a freshly loaded DMT 6 micron and then three micron diamond paste leather with the final step being just on wood,...

Re: Bark River Knives

Yes, I think the Kephart has the thinnest blade of all. I noticed convex blades go through a block of cheese and similar binding materials easier than flat grinds even when they are thicker. I am using the Aurora 2 and the Tundra now and they work pretty well. A Kephart will be a dream.

Not 15V, but I convexed Spyderco M4, Maxamet and other steels freehand on DMT plates. It takes no time at all really.

Re: Bark River Knives

I sold recently my original D2 Bravo 1, wasn't using it because the blade is too thick, too heavy and I don't like black handle materials. Also I have the LT version in 3V with beautiful golden-green elder burl. So I decided to get a 4" Kephart (DLT custom pre-order) for kitchen use mainly. Pre...

Maybe a bit too thick for me. I would like a Shabazz like regrind.
