I was also wondering if people used the Goldenstone along with another Spyderco sharpening tool like maybe the 701 Profile? I would think that the 2 of them together would be really nice for Spyderedged blades. Now I've only used my Goldenstone flat on a couple of occasions. To me if I need somethi...

If your blades are that dull and banged up then I would recommend you check out one of the main companies that make coarse or extra coarse diamond stones. Currently I have stones by DMT, 3M, Norton and CeraHone which are all made with monocrystalline diamonds and they all remove stock at a pretty f...

I guess I have some thinking to do!

The one thing I noticed regarding the diasharps listed in the link I put up, is that the 6x2 are $78 and their bigger brothers, the 8x3 are $200. More than twicw as much for the extra acreage! :)

First two sets are perfect depending on which size you want. If money isn't an issue I'd get the 10" set. Possibly the best deals for a complete set of good stones I've seen. I have had great success with DMT products. When used properly and taken care of they last for years and years. I've us...

Well, I guess time will tell if Sypderco does indeed come out with new/upgraded stuff. We will see at that time if I am in the market for some sharpening equipment or if I already bought something cause I couldnt wait forever! :) I have blades now and some are kinda dull so could use some coarse sto...

I have wanted a base for the 701's forever....that would be so awesome and truly make this great set even better and that is about the only way to make them any better except a coarse and ultra fit grit additions! :) I would think that it would be that hard as to use the Sharpmaker base and redo the...

So get them! LOL

Are you going to stay witn the Diasharps or go with the Duosharps in the 10 inch size? Just curious cause I heard somewhere that the interrupted o es actually cut better/faster! :)

JD, I am not trying to come off bitter but I just wish them would prioritize some new and updated sharpening equipment instead only worrying about sprints and exclusives! It doesnt do them any good if everyone owns there blades but then have to buy some other companies equipment. Just seems like the...

I'm surprised this thread has been so quiet. And disappointed, too. I was hoping to go to school on everyone's lessons learned. Is the Golderstone (the one I've been wanting) priced too high for what it does, especially if one already has a Sharpmaker? I am one that thinks it is high priced for wha...

I am looking at the set you have, the 6x2 two sided continuous with wood box and the 8x3 two sided duosharp plus with base for $139. I know this set is almost twice as much and has the interupted diamond setup but I dont think that is a big deal. I do like that it has the base. How do use setup the ...

Looks very nice! Did yoj get the 6 inch or 8 inch Diasharp's? Just curious cause I have been looking at the 6 inch set of 4 for only $78. :) I've never used an EP,WE, Lansky etc. I used to really want one of these systems, since I couldn't (or wouldn't) afford one I bought a course, fine, extra fine...

Sir Mike, Really sorry. Just got carried away won't happen again. I am looking it up and throwing away the key. Sorry about the health issues buddy. Wow, talk about hijacking a thread! LOL I actually prefer plain edges and never ran into a issue where the plain edge Salt 1 ever failed me! I wouldnt hesitate packing a SE one if I were diving or doing a specific task that is better done with a serrated edge! Both have there purpose and depending o...

Just use the sharpmaker at 40 degrees. Your angle is obviously lower than that so the 40 degree setting will put a very functional microbevel on your knife. When the 40 degree microbevel starts to "take over" the entire edge bevel, you can switch to the 30 degree setting on the sm (if u w...

The angle is simple lower than those settings, if your experience is that you need those angles for durability then sharpen at them. However you have to be doing fairly hard work to want a higher angle than is use on the Sharpmaker. I figured it was at a lower angle but wondered if that was the nor...
