Re: free hand sharpening - how much deviation from the exact angle is tolerable?
You can bring the angle too shallow all you want, but you want to avoid making it too steep, as that is what will round your apex. So technically you can deviate quite a bit and do a fantastic job.

Re: A Little Wharncliffe Love
I love wharncliffe's, sheepsfoot's, and reverse tanto's. Something about that straight razor feel and ease of sharpening.

Re: CPM REX 45 | Edge Performance
I was referring to unlaminated HAP40, but thanks for the info. It seems while the HAP40 HT protocol is fine, the Rex45 is far superior (although maybe slightly less tough) so I was curious.

Sal, will HAP40 be heat treated like Rex 45 in the future?

Re: Spyderco 2019 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming
^^Probably flippers, the excitement of a new design. It's just such a weird knife, I don't see it doing very well overall. Weird looking, but it looks like it would function quite well. The handle looks great for ergonomics and the blade is positioned far enough down that your fingers could avoid t...

Re: What were the biggest changes to your EDC habits in 2018?
Not much has changed for me. I still like big knives, still like robust construction in folders, still don't mind heavy folders, still like the same locks (tri-ad, comp, backlock, Ti framelock), still prefer carrying 2 knives of differing qualities (one extremely tough, one with extreme wear resista...

Re: Deep carry pocket clips
Wow, this is controversial. Although I am fine with regular ol spyderco clips and have never desired deep carry, I certainly understand the demand for deep carry clips. I do respect spyderco for not squashing the small businesses manufacturing these clips. What I don't understand is how passionately...

Re: Spyderco Bench Stone.
Thanks Tom, I just wanted to be sure, if there was a product I was unaware of (sadly lots of spyderco products fall into this) I'd want to look into it.
I thought Spyderco's stones went about like this.
Medium: 1200ish
Fine: 2500ish
Ultra Fine: 8-10k
Anyone feel free to correct me.

Re: Sharpening choils - Why?
When you hold that unsharpened portion on the stone, make sure that's the ONLY part that's touching the stone. So as you sharpen, no other part of the edge should touch the stone, until you have good bit of it sharpened away. I don't sharpen this area out in one session. It's usually a few sharpeni...

Re: Custom scales pics.
Does anyone know of a company that makes fully metal scales for the pm2 (like flytanium) that allow for tip DOWN carry? My favorite alu scales are from https://appliedweaponstech.com/products/spyderco-paramilitary-2-grip-kit, they allow tip down as well. You can buy ti/brass/copper scales directly ...

Re: price increase?!
So where do you buy from? Do you strictly buy/sell n the secondary market? Secondary market and eBay using "best offer" and coupons. I will buy from a dealer on closeout or for a dealer exclusive or sprint. You must be doing well on eBay. Because I'll buy a sprint from a dealer in a heart...

Re: price increase?!
I don’t buy new from dealers anymore. In part because I enjoy hunting for a deal. Also because I don’t like to take a big hit if I decide to sell the knife after light carry and use. To me there are still some great values in the Spyderco line. So where do you buy from? Do you strictly buy/sell n t...
