Hey kennbr34, thanks for putting up some relevant Dr. Larrin info. Lots of points of entry when it comes to understanding steel.
Thank you Larrin for making the info real and available.

Re: Why don't you Baton?
Don’t baton a mule cause they are very thin and any lateral movement will likely snap them, no matter what steel. I snapped a PD1 (cpm cruwear) mule on a 2x4. I still baton them on straight grained wood while camping though , haven’t learned my lesson yet ;) Took one for the team! Thanks for doing ...

Re: Why don't you Baton?
In terms of safety, splitting and processing firewood with a hatchet or by batoning both kind of have the same kind of perilous potential of accidental wrist-smackage. One might argue that a hatchet will cause a lot more damage in that scenario, but I also think batoning unnecessarily puts your wri...

Nice snap shot of the greater Mule Team list. And, fortunate for us that Spyderco kept it floating. I like surfing analogies, the ebb and flow and cycles of life stuff. Throw in some good waves, small waves and big waves too. Everyone can have fun. My surf analogy for this list compares to the intro...

Why don't you Baton?
Ok Team. Here's the dream. I'm hoping for an Aeb-L Mule baton sample of more than one ;) . So, who is up for it? Aeb-L is a tough steel, machete steel, I dare say bushcraft steel. Hit it! Or, add to the sensible list of why one should not use a knife when a hatchet is the safe, more efficient and mo...

I'm surprised that 15V BBB has lasted as long as it has. Also, thankful that we can recommend it to a friend and not set them up for too much disappointment. I'm just glad that there is stuff on the shelf and no one has to leave the barn with out a Mule. Sure, 15V BBB will sell out, as they all do b...

Found some harder wood. Old furniture pieces, the thicker piece is pine and the thinner piece is oak IMG_20230519_211624645threetest.jpg IMG_20230519_211728529threewood.jpg I tried to cut this one right through the core or hardest part possible for a soft wood. ;) ;) :star-struck I don't think many 15v BBB folders made it to Canadian retailers. They got snapped up quick, and were relatively expensive compared to my daily wage. I'm very thankful the 15V BBB Mule happened and I have 2 on the way. They are in my paygrade and won't get stopped along the way.

Re: MT39P – CPM 15V Mule Team Dropping Soon!
Process was a little slower than last time, but not terrible, with no long hang-ups on any particular screen. Our internet is not particularly dependable, so it seems strange that so many of you get timed-out. Time outs can be from network distribution, so if there were a lot of people coming in fr...

The only advice I know, TazKristi posted at the start. The rest of it is waiting and trying to relax. Every time I am surprised at how my heart rate spikes while racing for Mules. I've had a number of technical issues that I have been working on from address format to my credit card security feature...

I am going through a similar experience that is different in every other way possible. We both have a blade that chipped when we really did not expect it. Me: Out of the box. You: Year old. You: Cutting with a knife. Me: Batoning with a knife. Me: Chopping wood. You: Cut cardboard. I have just finis...

Re: Always Everything Baton Life
By no means is this a "good" set up, but it is diamond, it works, and it travels easy. What the #'s compare to is random at best, I rarely use 150#. For this job, I stayed on 300# and scrubbed my Mule like a dirty dog for about 5 min. Ok, I honestly followed "good" technique as p...

No possible clue. Elastic ceramic is a good guess. I maintain the boyish dream that Spyderco will sneak us some Vanax one day.

Not much time for the sharping story, or the full story really. I thought this was notaebl. I will say there was no damage after.

I always sharpen the blade all the way to the finger guard/choil. Diamond bench stones are your friend Hello Fireman, No problem with the sharpening to the guard/choil/heel. From edge up to spine is what I meant by "ground deep," I do not know better terminology. I imagine the robot holdi...

I think sharpening is the first step to learn about a blade. Don't hesitate to update us after that first re-sharpening ! thanks for sharing I get where you are coming from. Lots of different entry points to understanding steel. For me, I like to sharpen dull stuff. Out of the box sharpness and per...

Close up pics taken with my phone's camera, just like all my photos. The phones magnification sees better than I do, however this edge, a person could easy tell by touch or trying to cut anything, that it is chipped and rolled. Always Everything Baton Life
I received an Aebl Mule and have never been so much, "on the fence" about a blade before. By my eye it appeared to be ground a little deep, and the leftover burr is obvious. I did spend a fair week weighing pros and cons of sending it back to Spyderco. Then, I reviewed the advertising mate...
