That is much nicer than I thought it would be, I really had no idea. I have looked at it (online a couple of times) but I really didn't realize it would have such a quality look about it. Thanks for the photos. I think this is why the model was discontinued and why the 3 probably will be soon enoug...

I have never used my Civilian for SD, but I can tell you something. I didn't realize just how lethal looking it is until I actually held it in my hand. Pictures just don't convey the message. Exactly. I didn't read any more of this thread than this, but this can't be overstated. The Civi is an abso...

I know, they are actually sitting on quite a bit of stock and what's happening (as is the case with many other retail stores) is that people are using them as a research tool - and like it or not they are going to need to change the way they do business if they want to move product. I would really ...

I don't think it would be unreasonable if Spyderco said, we're going to do this knife colab with you but we'd like you to write a short piece on your thoughts behind the design so we could pass it along to the buyer, even if it's just part of the edge-u-cation paper. In fact i really think more desi...

I feel the same as you for a few dollars more I would far rather support the local store, I am in business myself - but when they are charging $240for a military ... it makes it hard. Yeah that's insane. I'd go into that shop and level with them and tell them how much i'd pay and show them i can st...

I think this is what the edge-u-cation papers are about but I would love to hear more from the designers. As an artist myself I appreciate hearing that sort of thing from the artist behind the work.

I try to avoid overly coarse grits if I can because they leave such deep scratches that take so much work to hone out. It may seem like they get it done faster but if you're into polishing bevels then you'll spend more time getting those deep scratches out than you would taking the bevel down with a...

We don't have a lot of knife shops around our neck of the woods (and I sense with the way the world is going, more and more brick & mortar type stores will be going by the way side in favour of the www) so I end up having to shop and research on line. I would much prefer to see the knife physic...

Not always but i have. It just depends on if i can get my hands on one at the knife shop before i buy or not. I did watch the Mike Janich Yojimbo 2 video about a dozen times before buying one. Every other knife i've bought was handled before buying.

I'll freely admit that I was pretty "meh" on the compression lock when I first tried it. It's not close to as easy to close one-handed as other lock types and if it wasn't randomly slapped onto some otherwise excellent knives, my world wouldn't be a dimmer place without it. I think that t...

This entire mess of a thread could've been avoided if the OP had just done a 3 second search for "favorite lock" which would have yielded this very recent thread about this subject which clearly shows the compression lock winning the poll with almost 4x the amount of votes as the second fa...

Well it's my second favorite lock design, second only very slightly behind the captured ball bearing lock, and it just so happens that the CBBL doesn't come in any models that i like so the compression lock is basically my favorite. I i could get a Para 2 with a CBBL i'd be in heaven. I find the com...

Thrift store. They were good enough for you to use prior to buying new ones...someone else will put them to the same use.

Except for a couple days recently when i felt the need to carry my Centofante 4, the Yo 2 has been a constant EDC for a couple months now. It pretty much booted my Para 2 out of my pocket, and that's an amazing accomplishment. I've gotten into the habit of flicking the blade open with my index finge...

Personally i like a little bite in the edge of my thumb hole...it adds traction. I once tried to take that edge down on a Delica and hated the entire knife after i did it. As for the Tuff/SMF comparison, it's pretty much how i had it in my head. The numbers don't lie and the price difference is hard...

This is sort of related to that last pic, but i'm a car guy when i'm not playing with knives or working. A few years ago i restored some really old school Mickey Thompson valve covers that had a big flat machined spot on the top. I played around with different ways to get the machined finish back in...

If it really bothers you, spend time with the medium stones to hone it out, otherwise just leave it alone and live with it and small issues like this on the bevel will eventually be sharpened out through regular sharpening/maintenance.

I spend a lot of time researching and listening to bands trying to find something new. A while back i ran across this band from '07 called My Bitter End. Can't believe i never heard this album. Apparently they broke up for a long time but are back in the studio making an EP right now. I can't really...
