Re: Figured out why I prefer g10 scales

Just like G10 carbon fiber can be made either slick or grippy. It is stiffer and lighter than G10 which is an advantage in some cases.

Re: "Spyderco Scandinavian Survival Knife": Who's in?

There was the Bushcraft. The market is pretty saturated and a carbon steel Mora is something like $4 (stainless about $10) and they are actually pretty good... ;)

Re: Spyderco knife rotation? How many?

Just curious how man knives you guys rotate with and what do you rotate? I’m thinking I need a few more Spydies! I rotate more between different examples of the same model than between different models. So, most days, I could be carrying any one of these Kiwis in my coin pocket... http://paulberett...

Re: Police versus military?

There Military is much better with gloves/mittens (it's cold here in winter), fits my hand better and I prefer the lock over that of the 2 others. Lots of this is subjective (I like the Police, but never got along with the cbbl Manixes) so if you can handle them it would help.

Re: The Spyderrazor

Only experience is with folding European style carbon steel razors like you used Sal so not much input I can add. I'd prefer them in the 5-6/8 sizes and use UF stones when stropping alone doesn't give a good shave. Strop before every use, I have shaved straight from the UF stones, but it gets better...

Re: The Spyderrazor

The straights I use the most are hollow old carbon steel 5/8s. Might be interested in a stainless one with micarta/CF scales. 5/8 or 6/8

Not sure how H1 would do ;)

Superleaf or leafstorm
Leafstorms pop up from time to time at about $150-250 for a NIB one

I'd love a C22 Michael Walker Sal. Preferably with micarta scales and a slightly improved clip ;)

Re: Spyderco Salt Knives as Anti-Shark Defense Tools?

Not much help in a knife against sharks imho. I dive with one to be able to cut nets, lines and to finish off fish I've speared. I've seen spearos poke curious sharks with their spearguns to keep them away though

Re: Spyderco knife rotation? How many?

About 20-30 are in the regular rotation.

Millies, Technos, C22, Bowie and Chef get the most pocket time, but I like to mix it up and feel bad for knives that aren't in regular use :o

Thinner and convex (eventually). I always give the factory edge some time if it looks ok though.

Re: How did ZDP189 go from a stainless steel to carbon steel?

My ZDP CF Stretch has gotten light staining on the sides of the blade, not rust just slight patina. It's been used for everything since it came out and I've never seen rust on it. Never chipped either, but I try not to hack or torque the blade when cutting :D

Like you said all your scandis have a micro. Even if they came without one from the factory it will often get one the first time you field sharpen it. Nothing to worry about imho ;) And I'm a Scandinavian :D

Re: Do you care about deep carry?

For my smaller knives that I carry at work/in the city I want deep carry. For other use it doesn't matter and I just want a functional clip that is comfortable in use and makes the knife easy to access and carry.
