Good to hear from you again. I took a break for a while and have been back for about 6 months myself. Sometimes it takes being away for a while to get you to really appreciate the company again.

Its called Diamond Like Carbon or DLC. Every once and a while I put a light coat of oil on it and wipe it off. This it makes it look "more" black and less dried out. Holds up well.

Mule seconds were $65. I did not see any of the other knives you mentioned. They had some Lavas for $80 IIRC. They had a decent ammount of close out stuff too, first quality, just a discount.

To each there own, lights can be quite personal. I happen to find zero issues with this light for what it is, and you differ. Guess thats why Surefire makes more then one light.

Have you seen the Perrin Streat Beat? Not sure if it fits your needs or not, but it's worth a look.

Also, on the new Surefire E1B, how do you adjust the brightness? On the E1B the first beam is the 80 lumen, and the second beam is the 5 lumen. I would look at two Surefire lights. First, if you like the G2 then check out the G2L. This light has an 80 lumen output and will run for 12 hours. Thats a huge improvement over the original.
