is there a modern equivalent?
Hello Julia. Yes, CTS BD1 is the same composition but made by Carpenter here in the US.

Re: Golden Colorado Heat Treat

See above. Wire edge is always going to be the first thing I look for when having edge issues . Problem solving 101 is to look for the easiest and most obvious and probable cause of whatever issue I might have. Wire edges are by far the most common source of edge issues. Anything is possible but the...

Re: GIN-1 ( G-2) Era: Spyderco's Beginning

I still rate GIN-1 ( G-2) as one of the better blade steels for serrated/Spyderedge blades. I think that ATS-55 and VG-10 that both followed the GIN-1 were both better blade steels for plain edges especially. ATS 55 was a fine steel as well. Sometimes I overlook it but that isn't because I don't li...

Re: GIN-1 ( G-2) Era: Spyderco's Beginning

Hello Joe. I too have pretty fond memories of Gin 1/G2 steel as it was the steel my first few Spydercos were made of. I've said before it was the first stainless I respected and back then would only carry carbon steel knives. It was good in PE and SE and though it was decent enough at corrosion resi...

Re: Bark River Knives

I missed out on getting a SOG Bowie way back when and regretted it since. I did the same with MACV-SOG Bowie in 3V from Bark River. I think if they make any future deliveries of them I'm not going to argue with myself this time and just get one. It's not the most practical knife for my needs but tha...

Re: What has become of Bladeforums?

I rarely go there now either. I got tired of the argumentative overly aggressive types who insist on dragging what should be good threads down into mud wrestling events. Some of those guys even question peoples values and morals for not showing sufficient outrage at knifemakers they disapprove of. I...

Re: 316L or 904L debate / best steel for a watch case

I wonder how H1 or LC200N would do. I am certainly no expert on watches but knowing how easy H1 is to scratch it would be one of the last I'd recommend. I have a couple of Titanium watches and I do like that as a material for watch cases. It doesn't take the super glossy mirror polish that some ste...

One is never too old, Joe....
I agree with that. I still have my motorcycle endorsement on my drivers license but there is the matter of money though. That is too much to spend on a hobby . I'd rather have a para glider. :)

Re: Z-max vs. Z-wear

Z-Wear is produced for Zapp by Crucible. Z-Wear and CPM CruWear are identical in every possible way. I really didn't know this and I have done a bunch of reading about Z wear on Zapp sites and even bought some Z wear sheets though I don't recall from whom. I knew it was a good steel though, as is P...

Picked up "El Cucuy" today. 2020 Triumph Rocket 3 R
2500 cc
165 Hp
163 lb-ft torque
Wow!

That is more HP and higher torque than my current Mazda 4 door sedan. That Rocket looks right too. I'd guess it is quicker and faster than any land vehicle I've ever driven or rode.

Re: Why Do People Hate Knives?

I don’t personally carry knives for the express purpose of SD. I’m not saying that others shouldn’t at all, I’m saying that for me, that isn’t MY primary reason. For me, if a knife has no utility value for me first and foremost, I wouldn’t buy or own it. There are some people out there who are comp...

Re: The Last Gun You Bought

LOL...I'll wager that was a "Carbon-15" pistol. One of the least reliable firearms I've ever seen. Took one to the range with a factory rep...complete and utter failure from the 3rd round fires. I've had several come into the shop for repair and I have refused to work on every one. All of them have...

Re: Which Endura is your ideal all-arounder?

Hopefully a Cruwear version will be out soon since we had a Cruwear Delica last year. That will be my ideal Endura! Yep, me too. I've spent the most time overall with VG 10 PE but the HAP 40 has been catching up over the last year and a half or so. To be honest I can get along with any version exce...

Re: The Last Gun You Bought

Wish I could do that here, but think the fun police from my HOA would have a serious hissy fit I can't think of a single neighbor of mine that wouldn't call the police and then the homeowners association. Some would be so hysterical they would be describing terrorist attacks and murders. I'd have s...
