Re: S35VN?

S35vn is slightly easier to sharpen and polish, slightly tougher, and much more stain resistant. From a user perspective, they are nearly identical and only the most sensitive of users would be able to tell the difference. Pete from the Cedric and ada youtube channel has done several corrosion resis...

Re: When / where was the first time you heard of or saw a spyderco?

I was into sharpening for years before getting into knives, and only really started looking into knives ~4 years ago. The first time I recall seeing a Spyderco was while browsing the becker section of bladeforums. Someone had posted a picture of a pm2, and I remember thinking “Good lord, that’s hide...

Re: DLC Who does it best? Spyderco? Coldsteel? Others?

The dlc on my 3v srk and master hunter has held up perfectly. It has a pearly sheen that looks nice IMO and doesn’t scratch easily, even when impacting rocks. I don’t have any dlc spydercos, so no comments there.

Re: Chaparral Raffir Noble - Just Got One - Question

I’ve used mine hard in my automotive production job, and the scales have scratched a lot and chipped a little in places. Definitely less durable a handle material than g10 or frn, but beautiful even when beat up.

Re: AFI Performance Flash Batch

The Laconico Keen was the knife that made me want keener grinds. That blade was .010 1mm bte and 18dps from the factory, .008 after reprofiling to 15dps. I’m really hoping to see some Spydercos with equally keen grinds, though I’d prefer something out of Golden if it happens. I’m not a fan of most o...

Re: A plea to Spyderco:

Hi Baron Mind, The downside is non afi's twisting the edge and chipping it. Any of our knives will take a thin edge and a knowledgeable knife person can handle that. But not all of our customers know as much as knife afi's and we get them back broken. That's why we had to strengthen the tips on the...

Re: A plea to Spyderco:

A Manix XL in stable, higher carbide steels like 10v, 4v, m4, or 20cv, ground 15dps and .008-.010 BTE would be an amazing blade for people who value cutting performance over indestructibility. Fairly thin stock combined with a wide blade already make the Manix XL a great slicer, and a more acute pri...

Re: Updated shaman sprint steel poll

I could handle and try a Shaman twice, on those two there was absolutely no bladeplay. What I really liked is how well that thing still slices, despite the thick blade stock. The tall blade makes for a good slicing geometry I guess, even with thicker stock. But imagine what it could do with a 3mm s...

Re: Top 5 knives you actually carry

I’m not going to list steels because I alternate every day. I’m not listing my caribbean because it has blade play that is getting worse, so I’m holding off on using it until I can visit the SFO to get it tuned up. My most carried models are: 1) Shaman 2j Manix XL 3) Manix LW 4) Native LW 5) Raffir ...

Re: Least liked thing about a favored Spydie

My caribbean has slight but noticable horizontal blade play, but is still my favorite knife. I’m planning to take it to the sfo next time I’m in denver to see if it can be fixed. If not, it’s still an amazing knife.

Re: Guesses on first model to drop from Reveal 2?

The CF/S90V Shaman is the thing that most catches my eye. But I actually hope it gets delayed a fair while, just because of various other aspects of my life right now. If it delays a bit, I might find the elbow room to snag one. So here is hoping you other folks get your wishes first. This ^. I’m t...

Re: Which steel "spoiled" you?

For me definitely H1/LC, for being maintenance free and so easy to sharpen. definitely agree. i don’t know why we’re even talking about anything other than lc200n anymore. it’s edge retention is as good as s30v, but it’s easier to sharpen and doesn’t rust. wanting more is just greedy. Because vanax...

Re: Are we going to see any Cruwear this year?

I’m assuming the cruwear/micarta shaman will happen this year or early next year because sal said he was carrying one several months ago. Personally, I hope the cruwear shaman will be at least a few months after the s90v shaman so I can save some money for it after the hit to my bank account from th...

Re: Spyderco 2019 Reveal Volume Two Released!

The shaman will be mine! Maybe the chief as well, though I’ll probably wait until a sprint comes out, as the manix xl serves my needs perfectly for the size range and steel. I got bit by the collector bug from the moment I held my first shaman, so I’m probably going to end up collecting most shaman ...

Loving mine. It’s been my most carried knife since the day I got it. Reprofiled down to 14dps and a 1500 grit diamond finish. Cuts like a laser and amazing in hand.

Re: Blade Width: What are your ideal widths?

As wide as possible without making the blade too fragile for a given thickness when FFG. The Manix XL has my favorite spyderco blade proportions. Thin and wide, among spyderco’s best slicers when brought down to 15dps, and sturdy enough to be a beater.

Re: Poll: Preferred steel choice(s) for a Manix 2 XL Sprint or Exclusive?

... Oops. Yeah, I missed the factory fresh part. That said, I’ve never had lasting results with any factory edge. The best I had was my maxamet native, but even that dulled several times faster than the edges I put on my knives. Even so, if the edge has a clean apex, and no burr or excessively stre...
