Re: Spyderco's DLC Coating

DLC on its own isn’t very helpful against corrosion because it’s porous. Where DLC shines is when combined with oil or another rust inhibitor, as it absorbs the inhibitor and doesn’t let it rub off the way it would on a satin blade.

Sign me up for a Spyd-esee Junglas in fully serrated H1! :D
You must really hate wood and have a sadistic streak a mile wide to be cruel enough to want to chop a nice, kindhearted tree with that. Count me in :D .

Re: KnifeCenter CPM-CRUWEAR Native 5 with smooth black G10

If this is still in stock at noon today I’ll order one. Will be my fourth native if I get my hands on it. Then I’ll need to get the crucarta shaman for symmetry :p .

Always PE for me, simply because I can’t sharpen serrations on my wicked edge.

Re: Manix 2 XL... S30V+

Any of the steels in my sig would be something I’d buy in a heartbeat. Already got the S90V, but the other nine I’d buy for anything south of $250. I’d shell out $300 for Maxamet or Vanax though.

Re: My PM2 is cursed!

Although it healed surprisingly well with a bit of scarring, I cut off a .5x1x1cm (Deep x Width x Length) chunk of my thumb, just barely missing the bone while testing a knife’s sharpness on a pallet strap. Somehow, when the strap snapped, the the blade rubberbanded in a way that resulted in cutting...

Re: Why all the Manix love?

I love a good full height or nearly full hollow grind, but low hollow grinds are my least favorite grind. If the hollow ground manix was fhg I would get one in a heartbeat.

Re: You can run any model you want in LC200N. Which do you choose?

Shaman, Manix XL, Native Chief. Lc200n is a bearing steel, so the CBBL should be possible to saltify so long as the spring can be rustproofed. Backlocks and complocks already have examples of salt versions, so the Chief and Shaman should definitely be possible. I hope for the handles to be a shade o...

Re: Sal, Maxamet Military?

If maxamet gets spread to more knives, I’d love to see it in the Military, Native Chief, Shaman and Manix XL. I have a maxamet Native and Manix, but I’d prefer larger knives. While I don’t like the Millie, I know enough people do to sell well and I’d happily buy at least one each of the other 3.

Re: Largest Spyderco you're comfortable with?

I carried a Becker bk9 for a year, so no folder ever seems particularly large to me. I generally find the 3.5-4.0” blade/3.1-3.5” edge range to be my favorite for folders. Maybe cold steel makes something I’d find large but I hate most opening methods aside from flippers and spydieholes. Thumb studs...

Re: Caribbean vs Military

..... S110V is a chore to use sometimes. ....... It was at ~10dps with ~12dps microbevel. The edge completely blunted. I think if you're careful with your cuts and use great technique s110v will go a long way, but don't expect wild edge retention. I think LC200N would be more enjoyable to use. I do...

Re: Wow!!! A crazy 30 days of must have knives...

$625 is the most I’ve spent in a month on knives (not including sharpening equipment). Bought a NIB S90v/CF Manix XL from knife country USA (I think it was around $330 after shipping) and preordered the S90v/CF shaman from bbs ($295 after shipping).

Re: Caribbean vs Native 5 Salt

I have both and my vote would be the Caribbean leaf. Very well designed blade and handle, thin behind the edge and acute at the tip.

Lc200n has near 3v class toughness according to Larrin’s testing, so the keen grind isn’t something to worry about. I consider it Sal’s best designed knife.

Re: Sal, Can we get CPM 15v?

I like cruwear but in my experience, it’s like a less stainless but easier to sharpen s30v. Not wear resistant enough for my job, and I’d rather use lc200n on non work days. I don’t have any complaints about cruwear, but no real use for it either. I listed xhp because it’s my favorite of the jack of...

Re: Sal, Can we get CPM 15v?

I’m sure hoping to see a Manix XL in 15v! Sliciness and wear resistance through the roof! Just what I need for my job. Loving Maxamet, S90v, and S110v at work, but 15v sounds like a lot of fun to use and sharpen.

Re: CBBL, Compression lock, and other lock preferences

Cbbl first, compression lock second, back lock third. All three have their benefits and drawbacks. The back lock is easy to operate even when wearing thick gloves, while the cbbl and complock can be difficult. The cbbl and back lock are ambidextrous, while the complock is right hand oriented. The cb...

CALMLY give him what he wants without acting threatening at all. If he runs after taking my wallet, call the police immediately after he’s out of sight and hearing range (ask someone to call the police if the mugger took my phone). If he attacks, do my best to cripple or kill him as quickly and effi...

Yep, the people working at Spyderco are amazing. Half the reason 95% of my folders are from Spyderco is because I want to support the people who work there, even if the knives aren’t cheap to buy in large numbers. Thanks Sal, Eric, Kristi, Michael, and everyone else who make Spyderco the amazing com...
