Re: ATR2, Shaman, or maybe Caribbean?

Lately I'm really leaning away from choils. My top 3 knives right now don't have them, and instead have large enough handles and more edge length as a result. I think I like that balance better for large or what I'd call average sized knives. Choils are fine on smaller knives but out of the three y...

Re: ATR2, Shaman, or maybe Caribbean?

My top 3 Spyderco knives are:
1) Caribbean Leaf
2) Shaman
3) Manix XL

The obvious answer is to get both the Caribbean and Shaman! Caribbean first, though. :D

Re: Native Salt owners?

Mine was pretty stiff at first, but broke in nicely after using it at work for a couple weeks. Give it time.

^THIS! I want a k390/natural + m4 manix xl more than anything else at the moment, and I know I’m not the only one hankering for more manix xl sprints. Someone make it happen!

Re: rusty steels

Eezox on knives that never touch food. Edci on knives that do. Never seen a spec of rust even when using 1095 in a downpour while backpacking for 3 days.

I’m definitely in! I was hoping for dlc first, but no way am I passing this one up. The shaman is my second favorite spyderco knife after the Caribbean leaf. :D

Re: Native 5 Maxamet

Maxamet is easy to sharpen when you know what you are doing and have diamonds or cbn. I ran into the issue with strips tearing out of the edge on my maxamet native last week, and after some experimentation, managed to find my problem. While, in my experience, maxamet doesn’t form a positive burr at ...

Re: What is the word on the Native Salt?

Maxamet is amazing. Holds an edge longer than any other steel I’ve used, is weirdly tough for how hard and high carbide it is, and is easier to sharpen than zdp189. Maxamet, I’ve found, doesn’t form burrs or wire-edges while sharpening, which makes it easier to give a course edge right off the stone...

Re: What is the word on the Native Salt?

Love mine. I use my maxamet native more at work, but the native salt is at the top of the pack for general edc. It makes a perfect companion blade to the caribbean.

Re: Warehouse knife

Maxamet native or manix. I use both. Dunno what you’d consider too expensive though. I think $100-$200 is normal for a quality knife.

Satin unless the handle is bright to contrast the dlc. Yellow, blaze orange, natural g10 etc. I’m happy either way with bright handles.

I've always categorized by blade length:

XS: sub 2.5"
S: 2.5"-3"
M: 3"-3.5"
L: 3.5"-4"
XL: 4"+

For fixed blades this is completely skewed and in my collection 7-8" blade lengths are considered "medium." :D
This is exactly how I categorize size except I consider 5-7” medium for fixed blades. :p

Re: I never want to hear about "chippy" steel ever again

I’ve chipped every steel I’ve used except 3v and lc200n, even at somewhat conservative angles (16-18dps). None of those steels (s30v, s35vn, s110v, aus8, vg10, 14c28n, xhp, 20cv, cruwear, zdp189, hap40, maxamet) chipped noticeably worse than any other. My knives cut hundreds of feet of cardboard to...
