Re: Carbon vs Stainless Steel

What a great article. My 1st ‘super steel’ was S30V. I bragged to everyone about how it was the best knife steel ever created. Then I started to read. And had to retract some of what I had touted. I had no clue about grain structure and why a carbon steel might outperform a stainless in test xyz. I ...

Re: Spyderco M390 vs...

It seems to me that my Spyderco Sage holds an edge longer than my Benchmade 940. Both are S30V steel so it led me to believe that my Spyderco was hardened a little bit more than the Benchmade. The reason for the post is that the BBS Para 3 in M390 might be a time sensitive purchase. I don’t expect t...

Re: Spyderco M390 vs...

I have been guilty of watching too many Michael Christy videos and have pursued the edges he gets. I couldn’t do that with my Tormek (they would still be silly sharp) but the Wicked Edge lets me get mirrored edges... so that’s what all my knives get. Maybe it’s not the best plan for a working edge a...

Re: Spyderco M390 vs...

Ok. Things to think about... The BM has been resharpened twice so I’m thinking I’m past the potential factory sharpening heat treat edge. I haven’t tried leaving the edge toothier. That’s worth a try. And are you recommending that even the ZDP & S110V could benefit from a less polished edge? It woul...

Spyderco M390 vs...

I have a question about Spyderco’s M390 as compared to BM’s CPM 20CV. I have a Griptilian in 20CV and it’s a very nice steel. It sharpens nicely and polishes well, but somehow, I don’t feel like it holds an edge as well as my ZDP-189 and S110V Spydies. To me, it’s similar to S30V. I also have a Para...

Re: Learning to sharpen with a blast from the past

The Lansky was my 1st serious sharpener and I could get very sharp edges with it. However, I will confirm the difficulties in repeating the bevels. Plus your angle choices are limited. The biggest limitation I came to realize was the rapid wear of the small stones. They dished in the center pretty b...

Ask her how many pairs of shoes she owns and if she can wear more than one pair at a time. Works for me.

Re: CPM Rex 45 Para 2 !!

It’s here. Beautiful knife. As others have mentioned, this is not a bright, punchy orange. Very sharp out of the box... able to treetop some arm hair. Almost perfectly centered. It came tip down and that’s the way I carry my other PM2, so the screws stay put where they are. Action is smooth but not ...

Re: Why No Elmax Equivalent?

I have a BM Griptilian in 20CV. Not apples to apples since their heat treat and target hardness might be different but, it’s a nice steel. Not blown away with its edge holding though. Been through a couple sharpenings on the Wicked Edge and it sharpens nicely and polished brilliantly. I’m thinking S...

Re: Para 3 Action Inconsistency?

My Para 3 in M4 wasn’t as smooth as my PM2 in S110V. I watched a disassembly video on YouTube and went after mine. I found a bit or two of stray something... maybe left-behind Loctite, in and around the pivot washers. I cleaned everything out, polished up the washers with some 1 micron cloth, and th...

Re: DAAAAAANG!!! (Para 3 M390)

If I didn’t have a REX 45 PM2 arriving Monday... Beautiful knife. I only have one Para 3 in M4 and love the platform. Blue and M390. Sweet! I have a PM2 in S110V and a BM Griptilian in 20CV. I find the 20CV easier to sharpen the the S110V. But... 2 different manufacturers and Spyderco runs their ste...

Everything I can see from your photo is identical to my authentic Delica in ZDP-189. There is only the one picture to go by, but it looks legit to me.

Re: Which spyderco is in the mail?

Para 2 in REX 45. But... I hope I don’t regret the purchase. I had my eyes on the Para 3 in Maxamet and put one in the cart. Waited a couple of months and cancelled the order. Then, put a Para 3 REX 45 in the cart. Waited and then the delays hit. Got discouraged and discovered the Para 3 in M4, DLC ...

Re: Sharpmaker and S35VN?

I have knives in S30V, S110V, CPM 20CV, ZDP-189 and M4 (and soon... REX 45). It handles them all. I use a Wicked Edge for all serious sharpening and the Sharpmaker for touch ups once they lose their stupid sharpness. There are ultra fine stones for the Sharpmaker too. I have them and use them as well.
