Re: Need Your Input - Which to Buy?

I've been very happy with my Natives in both S110V and Maxamet. Between those two steels it primarily comes down to whether you want extreme edge retention with extreme stainlessness (albeit not 100% rustproof), or double-extreme edge retention with typical carbon steel patina/corrosion potentialiti...

Re: Terravantium™ Dendritic Cobalt ?????

'Dendritic cobalt' is the trade name of David Boye's ingot process Stellite 6B. It's not a steel, but instead a cobalt-based alloy. Stellite 6B is about 2/3 cobalt and 1/3 chromium, with small amounts of tungsten and carbon. It's extremely wear resistant but very soft compared to blade steel, with a...

Re: Spydie Talk: Q&A, random info, knife chat

Strange... The screws look authentic. Fakes normally have a clean cut from the head to the torx groove. These have the slight indention that funnels your torx bit into the groove. It's definitely authentic. Those pics are cropped from the Alcyone product photo on Knifecenter, and my Polestar bought...

Re: Spydie Talk: Q&A, random info, knife chat

Why is the logo on the Polestar and Alcyone incorrect? The spider head is shaped wrong and missing the triangle cutout.

Re: Which PM2?: S30V/S35VN or S110V or M390

My most corrosion resistant PM2 are the M390 copies: beats S30V and S35VN, check out the literature, for example: http://knifeinformer.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Steel-charts-corrosion-resistance.jpg All in all, if you can find one and want wear resistant and hard, I recommend M390, such a cool...

Re: What to do when computer keyboard letters wear off?

Typing class was mandatory my freshman year of high school. The first level class was called Keyboarding, followed by Typing I and Typing II which were elective courses. The classroom was equipped with mix of Selectric I and II machines. You had to be able to touch type at 30 WPM with zero errors to...

Re: advice on a kid’s first knife

All three of my boys' first knives were small Case slipjoints. My oldest son (turning 16 next week) now has a small knife collection, purchased in the following order: SAK, Ka-Bar Short USMC, Leatherman Rebar, Kershaw Link, Mora Companion, Manix G10. My second son (turning 13 in a few months) is mor...

Re: Does anybody else really dislike the look of spyderco knives?

I've found that as my sense of knife aesthetics has incorporated a deeper understanding of functionality, my tastes have changed in favor of Spyderco.

This is Yori, slayer of cats. She doesn't like Spydercos, but she has been known to lick them.

Re: Sal: Silicon Carbide/Steel Blades for Spyderco?

I happen to be close friends with a gemologist and master faceter who pretty much single-handedly invented the modern synthetic Moissanite gemstone industry. SiC wafers are very expensive (purchased directly from Cree and Siemens IIRC), with four-digit prices for a 4" wafer. SiC is also incredibly d...

I had no intention of making the file available without permission, and I think I was pretty clear about that in my previous post (though nobody can read that now.) Deleting my post gives the impression after the fact that I had linked the file. I was only stating that the file exists, should the or...

Definitely a smatchet, preferably made by Cold Steel so you can defend yourself against marauding boots full of meat.

If you like the Ambitious as indicated by your other thread, you might want to just try the Native G10 S110V. I've been using one for over a month now (along with a Tenacious) and I am extremely happy with it. A couple weeks ago I got to play with a Native LW, and I'm glad I went with the G10/steel....

Re: New fixed blade - need help

If there are to be two steel offerings, my choices would be S110V and 4V. There needs to be more knives made of these steels. I'm relatively indifferent to handle material as long as it's one of the durable composites, not wood/wood laminate/plastic/etc. I'm also indifferent to sharpening choils and...

You are misinformed on this subject. The article you shared just proves my point... Even their high dpm/kgm values are LOWER than Earth background radiation. As I stated two weeks ago... I don't know the isotope production rates involved, or how that translates to human tissue exposure. Perhaps the...
