Re: Squeaky pivots on ambitious-persistence-tenacious knives?

It's probably not the pivot itself that's squeaking, but rather the detent ball dragging on the tang. You'll have more success if you take the knife apart, clean everything and relubricate between the tang, washers and liners, and also along the detent track if you want to get rid of the chatter. La...

There are 38, but they're all in Australia.

Re: My NEW Spyderco Tenacious!

The USP45 is a great sidearm. I've owned the regular model and the tactical for about 10 years now. After thousands of rounds of standard and +P ammo I don't think I've had a single malfunction. The HK45 is also really nice. I used to want a Mk.23 but after actually handling one it just felt too big...

Re: My NEW Spyderco Tenacious!

All of the knives pictured in this thread are authentic. The Tenacious fakes are pretty easy to spot if you know what to look for. They have round heads on the standoff screws, the jimping is too shallow and more rounded, and the print on the blade is incorrectly aligned. I haven't seen any fake Pol...

Re: My NEW Spyderco Tenacious!

Maybe I'm missing something but it's logo on the blade of the Tenacious that appears to be a little different (really only in color) from the rest of their blades. What you're showing on the blade of the Polestar looks very similar to what's on all the other Spyderco knives I have. I'll also point ...

Re: My NEW Spyderco Tenacious!

My Tenacious does not have that issue, my resilience didn’t have it either. Very strange. Those are photos of the Polestar, a knife that's very similar to the Tenacious but made at a different Chinese factory with a different steel and somewhat higher MSRP. The Polestar is like a cross between a Te...

Re: My NEW Spyderco Tenacious!

Yeah, but will the knife cut potatoes with a surface like that, that is the question?? I've only had the Polestar for a couple weeks and I haven't tried to cut any potatoes with it yet :p It's definitely thinner behind the edge than the Tenacious, and it's been excellent at cutting open shipping bo...

Re: My NEW Spyderco Tenacious!

I don't know if it's normal for BD1 or not, but it doesn't match the other side of the blade. It seems like a QC issue, as though the surface finishing process was applied more heavily on the presentation side.

Re: My NEW Spyderco Tenacious!

The 'weird uneven finish' I have is on the blade, not the G10. The presentation side of the blade has a nice clean brushed finish, while the non-presentation side has a bunch of squiggly lines which seem slightly recessed relative to the brushed surface. http://www.decadecounter.com/vta/misc/polesta...

Re: My NEW Spyderco Tenacious!

I just got my first Tenacious a couple of days ago. The build quality is amazing on these things for the price you pay for 'em. Might just have to get a Polestar now to see what else China can do. I've been carrying a Tenacious as my beater knife for about three months, and I'm pretty happy with it...

Re: Need Your Input - Which to Buy?

I've been very happy with my Natives in both S110V and Maxamet. Between those two steels it primarily comes down to whether you want extreme edge retention with extreme stainlessness (albeit not 100% rustproof), or double-extreme edge retention with typical carbon steel patina/corrosion potentialiti...

Re: Terravantium™ Dendritic Cobalt ?????

'Dendritic cobalt' is the trade name of David Boye's ingot process Stellite 6B. It's not a steel, but instead a cobalt-based alloy. Stellite 6B is about 2/3 cobalt and 1/3 chromium, with small amounts of tungsten and carbon. It's extremely wear resistant but very soft compared to blade steel, with a...

Re: Spydie Talk: Q&A, random info, knife chat

Strange... The screws look authentic. Fakes normally have a clean cut from the head to the torx groove. These have the slight indention that funnels your torx bit into the groove. It's definitely authentic. Those pics are cropped from the Alcyone product photo on Knifecenter, and my Polestar bought...

Re: Spydie Talk: Q&A, random info, knife chat

Why is the logo on the Polestar and Alcyone incorrect? The spider head is shaped wrong and missing the triangle cutout.

Re: Which PM2?: S30V/S35VN or S110V or M390

My most corrosion resistant PM2 are the M390 copies: beats S30V and S35VN, check out the literature, for example: http://knifeinformer.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Steel-charts-corrosion-resistance.jpg All in all, if you can find one and want wear resistant and hard, I recommend M390, such a cool...

Re: What to do when computer keyboard letters wear off?

Typing class was mandatory my freshman year of high school. The first level class was called Keyboarding, followed by Typing I and Typing II which were elective courses. The classroom was equipped with mix of Selectric I and II machines. You had to be able to touch type at 30 WPM with zero errors to...

Re: advice on a kid’s first knife

All three of my boys' first knives were small Case slipjoints. My oldest son (turning 16 next week) now has a small knife collection, purchased in the following order: SAK, Ka-Bar Short USMC, Leatherman Rebar, Kershaw Link, Mora Companion, Manix G10. My second son (turning 13 in a few months) is mor...

Re: Does anybody else really dislike the look of spyderco knives?

I've found that as my sense of knife aesthetics has incorporated a deeper understanding of functionality, my tastes have changed in favor of Spyderco.

This is Yori, slayer of cats. She doesn't like Spydercos, but she has been known to lick them.
