Re: Pocket Clip Sizing/Compatibility Info

Another vote for making this a sticky! Any idea whether the Smock clip is compatible with any others?

Re: Am I paranoid about counterfeits?

I have bought a couple of Higonokami folders and some Victorinox on Amazon and I haven’t gotten a fake yet. However I wouldn’t buy a Spyderco knife there. It just seems too risky. I know they have a generous return policy but it would be better if they stomped on the counterfeiters in their marketpl...

Re: Easy knife sharpener for beginner

1) Sharpmaker 2) Sharpmaker Watch the videos on YouTube of Sal and company demonstrating how to use same. It’s the only one you need. I never use my Arkansas stones anymore. I am not an advanced user so I am sure there are some great more capable systems but for kitchen implements, knives, and sciss...

Re: Lc200n Manix 2 LW Interest Poll

Yes, this is a match made in heaven! I don’t want a back lock though. LC 200N, CBBL, and the wire clip. If we could get FRCP in a translucent yellow even better. Screws not pins as in the other lightweights.

Re: How I Really Buy Knives

I would like to think that I have a rational process for knife purchases. I can’t buy everything I want. Won’t spend more than $400 again (it was a Chris Reeve knife). I strongly prefer premium materials (the steel and slabs) and for it to be a Spyderco. I buy locking folders. Then I see something I...

Re: What's your favorite Spyderco that's a little bit of a "hidden gem?"

I usually carry 2 knives. The Dragonfly 2 in ZDP 189, in my watch pocket and a 3” or larger in the right front or rear pocket. The Dragonfly already has some mentions in the thread so I will pick another watch pocket knife. Since I carry 2 I will pick 2 gems, 1 small, 1 large. The Chaparral in Raffi...

Re: Does anyone else wish for a standard scale color other than black?

I’d like something besides black. Almost anything else would be fine with me. Burgundy, Forest green or a dark but not Navy blue would be my first choices.

Re: Vote: SMOCK v.s. IKUCHI

I voted Smock, ‘cause I haven’t bought an Ikuchi yet. This application of the compression lock is awesome. The Smock’s blade shape works well for every day cutting chores. I would prefer a black wire clip like the one on the Schempp Bowie. It has an excellent flipping action. Much better than the Po...

Beautiful work. Not my cup of tea, but I think the price is fair. I don’t value knives as investments but I would carry one of these happily.

I would also like to see a new Walker and Starmate. CF and a premium steel, black wire clip like the Schempp Bowie.

Re: Removing Patina from K390 (Urban)

Just as a side note oxalic acid is great for cleaning rust off of glass. I have used it for years for cleaning insulators. I think I bought some labeled as wood bleach. I would use caution when applying it but I can vouch for the efficacy of Bar Keepers friend in shining up stainless steel.

Re: Sharpening choils - Why?

The choil cut in the Smock by Alistair Phillips was 3 mm. That’s not much edge to lose really. In terms of aesthetics I am indifferent to a sharpening choil but I am all in on things that make sharpening easier. I think the choil falls into that category.

Re: Which Spyderco Haunts You Most?

Something about the Starmate C55 and the Michael Walker C22 among the older ones. More recently the K2 and the Slyscz Bowie. Time and $$$ permitting I would acquire all 4. I didn’t pre-order my Smock in timely fashion so I’m waiting on that one.

I like the look in the photo. I don’t think the Lynch clip finish looks like stone/acid wash but you could stonewash it fairly easily. Good luck with your project and post some pics as it progresses!

Re: New Metal/Alloy and other technology news for you all.

That’s a better story but in my version you were more of a badass! Do you as a former auditor think that the audit trail in aerospace is useful and necessary? I work in a heavily regulated industry with tons of red tape. Sometimes the regulations seem a little much.
