Re: Steel preference for SE enthusiasts?

Following on from xceptnl Not very experienced in steel but love the SE. My only one for years has been Endura in Aus-8. I use it often but hardly ever sharpen it although it probably needs it to be razor sharp (as far as an SE can be), it still cuts well. Just picked up a Endura Combo in VG-10 so w...

Re: Interesting edge retention results

Re "It is a very difficult subject to debate though because there is just so much that affects how a given steel performs for a given individual" I can add another witnessed dimension. My mate and I can do the same cuts on an animal but he can effortlessly cut through say the rump and around while I...

Re: Interesting edge retention results

Interesting comment "bunch of knife knuts that are spoilt for choice that would have this discussion in the first place." Doesn't just apply to steels, reading some of the other things on forums re detail (centered blades etc) amazes me. Bloke, "Genuine bang for buck". Agree. I do carry my Endura wi...

Bloke

Well said.

I'm sure my example of Green River knives fits your view. Certainly not the best steel but they certainly do their job!

Re: Interesting edge retention results

Fascinating discussion. I would love to be able to try various blades / steels on what I consider to be a very tough test, that of Water Buffalo hides. Up to an inch thick but also dirt, grit, mud etc ingrained in the hair. We normally have quite a few Green River Skinners (High carbon Steel), hold ...

Re: Best grip?

Question re Micarta and why people put it over FRN? Before I start, I have some old Micarta Handled knives, (not Spyderco) and can't for the life of me see how they have better grip than my Endura FRN handled knives. I'll post a photo later of the Micarta I'm talking about but in the mean time, woul...

Re: Ebay Come Ups?

$150 for a Dodo. $100 for an s110v Native forum knife. Both great. One DoDo went quite cheaply early this year - only one though, the rest were way up there. When did you get yours ? When a poster on here asked about DoDo's and getting one, I sent him a link to an ebay one currently running but aga...

Re: Ebay Come Ups?

I got an Endura 1 with broken plastic clip (I don't use them so doesn't worry me for US $35 in good blade condition. It's going to become my bush knife (so I don't loose my first and only Spyderco which I've had for 25+ years) I also picked up an Endura 11 or 111 Combo edge for Aus $25 which is abou...

Fair enough, it’s not an opinion I have any passion about but I’ve never thought of it as more than supply and demand.
That makes 2 of us.

If I want something, I buy it, I just decide who, what, where and when I need it buy.

Re: Ebay

I stay off there. Flippers make me sick. I agree. I feel terrible for people paying $270 for a $160 knife. But as been stated, maybe they don't reside in the US, or are lucky enough that money isn't a big issue for them. I felt slightly angry while browsing honestly though at such jacked up prices....

**Typing this on a computer made in china or Indonesia or Korea or someplace other than the US** That's probably true but I can almost guarantee you it has metal product inside it that was refined, cast, and machined in the US. ;) Computer chips maybe. Not sure about the metal ! The metal in the ch...

Re: question about the secondary market

Did not know you can do that. Solid idea! I just checked, and if I did it correctly no one has sold a maxamet mule on ebay. Which is crazy! Maybe only knife nuts got them and they probably sell on blade forums, which is like fort knox of knife pricing. I usually find good deals on BF. Sellers are o...

Re: Ebay

I've been looking at/ for and buying the odd used Endura SE. I am stunned what some people pay for really well used / worn examples (like the serrations really worn down) including those with damaged tips.

Some only $20 less to almost the same price as a new Pacific Salt SE or current Endura!

Good to hear because SE Pacific Salt is next on my list very soon.

Brought to my attention by forum members when asking about my Endura.

Did you get Black or Yellow ?

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?

Those are some massive fish! Too bad they're no good to eat. :) Connor, surprisingly enough some people do eat them. The keep them live and purge them in bath tubs or swimming pools with fresh clean water for a week I believe, but not this Little Black Duck! :) You can still have them, purged or no...

destroying the rivers you would be a Multimillionaire!
