Re: Sal's Casual Bombshell Thread

Thanx Marius, Spencer, Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then. In fact the word that forumites have coined to describe the way Spyderco knives look is "fugly". sal Well, I tend to think most fancy knives are ugly. Not naming specific brands, but lots of the really expensive ones that people...

Re: Is your interest in sharpening on the same level as your interest in knives?

Chose "other." I don't sharpen my knives. That's because I don't currently have the money to spend on a quality sharpening setup, and also don't trust other people to put an edge on my nice Spydercos without screwing them up. Am saving for some sharpening tools, will eventually buy some, probably so...

Re: Do most of us need larger knives?

https://i.imgur.com/1gX4ztl.jpg What model is the second from the left? I've been seeing photos of it around the forums and haven't yet managed to catch its name. Whether I need a larger knife or not is largely irrelevant. Women's jeans pockets are simply too shallow for any folding knive that carr...

Re: Spyderco Photo of the Week Contest!

...Yeah it always makes me laugh when it's 80 or 90 degrees F in the north and people start crying about how's its so hot :D... When I was home in the NW Chicago suburbs this summer the temps went from the mid 80s to mid 90s. That doesn't seem so bad compared to summer temps in N. TX but I had forg...

I like FRN, and the shape of the Sage, but my knife fund is in the negative numbers right now. Perhaps I'll buy one later on :)

Re: Models That Absolutely DESERVE Sprint Runs

Start with the ATS-55 version of the Rescue. Upgrade the blade steel to VG-10, give it a black DLC coating to match the black FRN handle, and add an inch of plain edge to the tip like that blue version of the Rescue that came out later. Also make versions of this in full plainedge and full serrated...

New person! Hello! You got a nice start to a Spydie collection there, the whole military "family", one of each size for every situation :) Which knives are you looking at getting next?

Re: Do most of us need larger knives?

...speaking of those who carry a knife in order to cut the occasional thing during the day (not kitchen duties), how many of us really need a “larger” knife, anything over 3”? I am also excepting those whose job requires frequent cutting of heavier or tougher materials. I’m focused on most of us wh...

...and least attractive handle... I realized that the knife really isn't all that pretty. In fact, I think the knife looks better closed than open. Holding it is a different matter. I can get all four fingers on the handle with room to spare. I've yet to find a grip that is uncomfortable. To me, th...

Re: How do you determine which Spyderco is best for you?

Some important things for me: Ergonomics LIGHTWEIGHT (full steel liners + FRN handle = too heavy) Right size (longer knives preferred) Good handle-to-blade ratio Tip-up carry Stainlessness Flat-ground + distal taper + thin blade Edge options? (some knives I like serrated, others I want plainedged) A...

Re: Emotional State based on Spyderco Availability?

//forum.spyderco.com/download/file.php?id=32597 My favorite model was discontinued in the 90s. :spyder: I don't feel much of any particular way about that, aside from wishing they were cheaper on eBay and being occasionally vaguely irritated that they won't be getting any cool new sprints. But I do...

Re: Emotional State based on Spyderco Availability?

I don't get particularly bummed out or depressed about missing out on a sprint run knife, or about having a hard time finding the model I want on eBay or whatever. Occasionally I will get irritated, if I've been checking eBay for a few months and have seen no knives listed that are the model I'm loo...

Re: Ideal blade thickness for your EDC folder?

I haven't taken the time to look up blade thickness stats, but I'd like most of my knives more if they had about 1/3 their current thickness shaved off. I like thin slicey blades. Having them flat-ground would be even better. It's generally not a major issue for me though, because I know I can alway...

Re: Native 5 SE in S35VN

If I remember correctly, S35VN is something like 20% tougher than Spyderco's standard S30V steel, which they use in basically everything they make. There haven't been a bunch of complaints about S30v teeth breaking, so you're probably safe. ;) My first Spydie was exactly the knife you just bought, D...

Re: Knives here, there, and everywhere

I don't own my own house, and my parents would ask me to pick up my knives if I was in the habit of leaving them in random places around here. Soon I hope to get my own place though, and I think there'll be a lot wider spread of knives scattered everywhere when that happens. Currently, I have some i...

Re: Blade Grind: Avantages? Disadvantages? PE & SE

I'll take a FFG for every knife if given the option. I've avoided buying certain models from various companies because of a 1/2 height saber grind. Every knife I carry and use is FFG aside from my salts, which I find worth the trade off since they're rust proof magic. +1 to what Vivi said :spyder: ...

Re: Salt 2 or wait native salt (SE)?

Hello! I'd say hold off and wait for the Native Salt, and if you don't like the way it feels in hand, return it or sell it and get the Salt 2 instead. Once you buy a knife, you aren't locked in to keeping it forever, you can change your mind if you want. Or save up and get both of them ;) I'm going ...

Re: What is your current favorite duo?

Usually I can't be bothered to carry more than one knife, but on the days I'm feeling particularly into my knives or know I'll have reason to use both of them, my ATS-55 Endura and Rescue make a great matching set. The Rescue is my favorite knife ever (so far, lol), but the Endura has been the one I...
