Re: Help ID this knife, Police?

Hello and welcome! That is definitely an old Police model. G-2 steel was used by Spyderco sometime around the timeframe you describe, and I think the very old Police models did not have the rivets. Also, in the olden days, there were less counterfeiters making fake Spyderco products. And I don't see...

Realized I love sheepsfoot blades and that I prefer longer knives.

Re: What's the lowest edge retention steel you'd carry?

An 8cr-something Byrd Cara Cara Rescue (although I don't carry it much, just leave it in the car for emergencies), a G-2 super old Rescue, an ATS-55 newer Rescue and Endura 3. They do get dull fast, but unfortunately there are no versions of those models with higher edge retention steels or cool sup...

The old-style Rescue with the handle shaped like the Mariner's, and the slightly newer-style Rescue with the handle shaped like the Atlantic Salt's. Super awesome :)

I don't know for sure, but I think probably yes? Take a close look at the scales in photos and check if all the screwholes seem to line up, first.

Re: Serrated January

I am spyderedge guy and I allways have some teeth on me. I allways said that a spyderedge can do what a plain edge does but not the other way around. Agree with you. Maybe not quite as nice/fine but it does it. Agree, with the caveat that I can't shave with a serrated knife (at least, not without c...

Re: Knives you didn't expect to like so much, or vice versa

I like the Para 3 a lot more than i thought I would. Not enough to buy one, because it's still too short and heavy for me, and has no lockback. But it's way more comfortable in hand than I expected, and if I needed a small heavy-duty work knife then I'd go for it.

Re: Knives you wish you could like

The Manix and the Stretch. Gorgeous knives both, a wonderful array of colors and bladesteels, lightweight, flatground, awesome -- but the ergos don't gel with my hands at all. Was so disappointed in both cases. But then again, maybe that's for the best, because: If I liked any more knives I’d have t...

Re: I wish spyderco offered deep carry clips

I like carrying knives IWB, most comfortable spot. Only worry is that it looks a bit weird to be reaching into my pants to pull out a knife, but that's probably just my social anxiety talking. That said, I would enjoy some optional deep carry clips, maybe offered by Spyderco as a collaboration with ...

Endura 3, Pac Salt, bladeswap?

I recently saw in one of Vivi's posts that he's acquired a beautiful orange-handled Pacific Salt by doing a bladeswap with the recent Spyderhawk sprint. Made me consider giving a yellow Pacific Salt handle to my Endura 3; yellow is super pretty and bright, good for visibility. Are the knives similar...

Re: If you could only keep one.

ATS-55 version of the Spyderco Rescue. Perfect handle ergos, awesome sheepsfoot blade shape, long and lightweight, full of teeth. Great at slicing tomatoes, sharpening pencils, and chewing through cardboard.

Re: 2019 Knife Plans

Will be working full-time next year, so will have a lot more cash to spend on this hobby, and that will be awesome. I want to use that cash to get a yellow knife. Either the Pac Salt or the Atlantic Salt, I'm thinking. And some more copies of the rare old Rescue models I like. And another Endura 3. ...

Re: Interesting Aquisition, curious if meant to be or what it use to be?

... Well, that's certainly... Wow. Looks like it used to be the older version of one of these, before... that... got done to it: https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details/K04BL/Spyderco-Utility-Knife-6/851 Now I kind of want to know who did those serrations. Been considering getting some of my knives...

Re: What's your "type"?

Long sheepsfoot knives. Too lazy to go find a photo showing them off right now, but I currently have 3 (Mariner-style Rescue, ATS-55 Rescue, Cara Cara 2 Rescue) and even got my buddy into buying a copy of my Cara Cara 2 one.

Re: Identification on Spyderco knife

That's definitely a Spyderco Military, but you probably knew as much from the writing on the blade. Definitely an older model, because of that jimping. Can't say much more than that; maybe someone else who knows more about the model will be able to help you out. A lot of old Spydies do sell for a lo...

Re: Sal's Casual Bombshell Thread

Thanx Marius, Spencer, Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then. In fact the word that forumites have coined to describe the way Spyderco knives look is "fugly". sal Well, I tend to think most fancy knives are ugly. Not naming specific brands, but lots of the really expensive ones that people...

Re: Is your interest in sharpening on the same level as your interest in knives?

Chose "other." I don't sharpen my knives. That's because I don't currently have the money to spend on a quality sharpening setup, and also don't trust other people to put an edge on my nice Spydercos without screwing them up. Am saving for some sharpening tools, will eventually buy some, probably so...

https://i.imgur.com/1gX4ztl.jpg What model is the second from the left? I've been seeing photos of it around the forums and haven't yet managed to catch its name. Whether I need a larger knife or not is largely irrelevant. Women's jeans pockets are simply too shallow for any folding knive that carr...
