Re: S30V or 204P for food prep?

204P is not harder to sharpen than S30V.

Re: S30V or 204P for food prep?

You're doing fine. No corrosion? No concern.

Some people seem to really care about corrosion resistance a lot. Oh well. Maybe they live in the Dead Sea or something. But don't worry - if your knives were corroding, you would be able to see it.

Another from Reddit:C32 Spyderco Spur

Hey guys, saw another interesting one on the Reddit group and thought y'all might want to weigh in: Image Link Reddit Thread One of the Reddit users identified it as C32 Spyderco Spur but another pointed out some manufacturing issues: dodgy serrations, etc. I don't know whether that could just be wh...

Re: S30V or 204P for food prep?

So assume spyderedge and not wanting oil all over his food and H1 starts to sound a lot better Surely you can't be seriously recommending spyderedge H1 for food preparation? CTS-204p is approximately the same thing as CPM-20CV or M390. In my opinion, that's a clearly superior steel for food prep. S...

Re: Manix 2 Maxamet sharpener

I also use window cleaner on abrasive stones (Aldi one not Windex, but whatever.) I began doing this because you're not meant to use oil on diamond plates, but they obviously do need cleaning.

Re: Just how good is CPM S30V?

Yeah I think a lot of respondents are steel nerds who are (unconsciously, perhaps) comparing it to steels like S110V, M390 etc. That's not reasonable, since OP's previous experience is with VG-10. So hardbawl, S30V keeps an edge longer than VG-10. You won't need to sharpen your PM2 as often as you d...

Re: Civilian 2 Poll

I would like to see a razor blade steel like AEB-L. It seems that in a specialist self defence knife intended for slashing, extreme sharpness is much more important than edge retention. Other than that: low angle would be nice for the same reason. carbon fibre is undesirable unless it can be full th...

Re: Quantifying K390

Thanks Vivi. See, I've been thinking I want to get a Maxamet Military, but then I thought of the K390 Police 4. The Police is ground from thinner stock, is easier to pocket and has a better blade to handle ratio. These are all good things for me, so if K390 is even close to Maxamet's performance I'l...

Quantifying K390

With the new Police 4 nearly here, I wanted to ask some questions about K390. Searching the web, it seems to be an uncommonly used steel which generated a lot of hype in '13 but hasn't been heard of much since then. How does it compare in edge retention testing vs other non-stainless tool steels lik...

Since the thread title is "Nice shiny Bevels??" I figured we were talking about bevels.

Re: Nice shiny Bevels??

Even the guy who runs Science Of Sharp says that polish is unrelated to sharpness or keenness. And he specialises in razors, so that's a substantial point against the position that polished edges are best for shaving or hair whittling.

Ok so I'm 99% this is a fake but you guys are the experts.

Dude purchased it in a UK army surplus shop. To me it looks like an Urban, but it's locking and the grind looks dodgy and so does the font on the blade. Also, the box apparently doesn't have a barcode.

Re: LC200N

from at least one review it's edge holding narrowly beat out M4 so who knows I'd be really hesitant to believe that. Every newly popular steel gets mad hype. But if someone's getting better retention from LC200N than M4, I would wonder whether they're cutting rope in the Dead Sea. Have you got spec...

BladeHQ have it listed for $390. Ouch. Well, not every knife can be priced like the Sustain.
