Re: CTSBD1 stainless?

I'm not very gentle with my M2LW in BD1 and have never had a rusting issue. And it's been through things that would be rust prone but nary a problem. I don't oil it and sometimes the best I can do at the moment is well meaning wipe down on my pants. I think it's a very nice and underrated steel. But...

Re: 2019 Knife Plans

2018 was largely a quest for my best all-around EDC knife. After many years of carrying a Delica and oft heralding it's excellence, I had to ask myself, what if I'm missing something? It was going to be a Spyderco and I had a few general preferences but I just sort of tossed myself at it. I ain't ge...

The Dfly really isn’t too small, once you commence to using it, but if you insist, the Chaparral FRN is right what you’re asking for.
I'd answer the same. The Chap is a great design, no doubt but for me, it sits in an awkward size space. The D'Fly is an awesome knife.

Re: Suggest a medium sized Spyderco FB for hiking & camping

All too often, handle design gets overlooked on knives intended for these tasks. A properly designed handle that fills out and fits your hand doesn't need much in terms of traction. Also, a fuller handle will mean less fatigue and hot spots. I'd have to give serious attention to the Serrata and Mora...

Re: Is your interest in sharpening on the same level as your interest in knives?

Hello folks, A random question for your sharpening masters, if you are skilled at freehand do you ever use a guided system? Would you recommend someone newer to sharpening to go guided, or suck it up and use stones. I've used a wet stone on my tenacious and got it back to a descent edge... but I al...

Re: Is your interest in sharpening on the same level as your interest in knives?

After reading more, the level of skill & concentration to sharpen the 101th knife is what makes sharpening meditative (for those enjoying it) or a chore (for those not). Eli, I used to like jdavis, but he has moved on since. Try HeavyHanded, and Jason B (both over BF) YT channel. I can’t recall the...

That's too bad but he surely made a huge splash in the knife world. A truly impactful life rarely happens by accident.

I'm sorry for your loss Sal.

Re: Is your interest in sharpening on the same level as your interest in knives?

The available answers are tad restrictive for me in that, I love sharpening regardless of the system, medium, style, etc. I don't employ them all obviously and have my favorites but I'm interested in most of them and do use different approaches. I have a KME and it is outstanding. Very repeatable, w...

Re: What should I buy to practice sharpening on?

Don't buy cheap junk to practice on. For one, some of those steels are so terrible that you can't get/maintain a decent edge and it will just frustrate you even more. For two, it is a total waste of money, no matter how little it is, it is a waste. As said, I'd start with something in the byrd line....

Re: LC200N or BD1N

I wouldn’t go betting my house on it but I suspect that most folks would have a hard time distinguishing between s90v, s30v and bd1n in the limited test that Bloke described...or in everyday use for that matter. I certainly find it hard to tell them apart in use...at least in edge performance. I th...

Re: LC200N or BD1N

If someone put three identical knives with three different blade steels all sharpened to the same level of sharpness with no way of identifying what was what on a table and gave you say 150' linear feet of cardboard to cut. I'd bet my home 99.9% of the self proclaimed steel boffins wouldn't be able...

Hi Eli,

Yes, that's true of both the Polestar and the Alcyone. I would recommend either to any scout.

Re: Hey Sal, any plans for CTS BD1N?

Hi ABX, The maker of the Tenacious doesn't like to work with other steels than 8Cr.....at least at this time. Thanx BornIn, I carry the Polestar quite a bit. In my opinion, it's one of my better designs. But it seems the market doesn't agree. :o sal Sal, don't I remember you saying the Polestar was...

Re: Hey Sal, any plans for CTS BD1N?

While I only have one knife in BD1N at the moment, I freaking love the stuff so far. So receptive to sharpening but holds it's edge well and my experience is it can get pretty thin and stay tough. I really want a translucent M2LW to go with other flavors I have but I've been holding out in hopes tha...

Re: Anybody used any of the spydercos with the Emerson/wave opener?

Hey guys I have been looking at some of the delicas and enduras with the Emerson openers on them I just wanted to hear from the people who have experience with the wave opener spydercos. What did you think of them, are how well do they work on backlock knives like the delica and endura, do you use ...
