Re: The Completely Unnecessary Military Appreciation Thread!

Most of the people I've seen complaining about the liner lock on the Military are complaining that it *is* a liner lock and refuse to even try a Military just because of that. Their loss. I can certainly understand peoples preferences, likes and dislikes for certain locks but the great debates on l...

Re: Is sharpening hard steels hard?

Your S90V version of the Sprig is nothing to sneeze at. :winking-tongue Still kicking myself in the butt for missing out. If it ever returns with Phil's recommended tweaks I'll be all over it. Those Pixie handles were mighty slick when wet or bloody. My most functionally purpose driven small game k...

Re: Is sharpening hard steels hard?

I always felt the same way about ZDP189. Very little burring when I sharpened my old Caly jr, Endura, etc. Most definitely Vivi, it’s a pleasure to sharpen with simple abrasives and says a lot for steels specifically developed for cutlery. I truly think ZDP-189 is grossly under rated. I’d jump at a...

Re: Looking at "Vivi edges" with a VHX-6000 digital microscope

Cool pics Vivi! Up until I joined the Forum I erroneously chased sharp through edge refinement. As a young rigger when I needed to cut rope I’d ask one of the boys who sharpened their knives on concrete to use one of theirs. Ah, hahaha! Today I seldom sharpen anything other than a caping knife over ...

Re: Is sharpening hard steels hard?

Edit:. To add, ZDP-189 at a higher hardness is easier for me to get a sticky edge than K390 at a lower hardness. No Vanadium in ZDP-189. Good thread! Glad ZDP-189 has been mentioned. I had read all sorts of complaints when I first joined the Forum about ZDP-189 being so difficult to sharpen. I had ...

Re: Show Your Tacos Bloke Dedication Thread !

Ha ha ! First thing I drove was my Dad’s twin engine racing go kart. …. Ah, hahaha, ah, hahaha, ah, hahaha! When I was around a second year apprentice about 16 years old. I talked the first year apprentice into going half with me in building a Go-Kart. We bought a frame and wheels. I can’t remember...

Re: Show Your Tacos Bloke Dedication Thread !

I really like that bed ! Did you make it or aftermarket ? I also had a 1994 4x4 Extended cab before the Tacoma came out . Still my favorite truck, V6 3.0 , 5spd with 5.36 gears , and 31inch tires , all standard . I will look for pics . Thanks Bloke ! Dan Hi Dan, the bed was a custom jobbie along wi...

Re: Military 2

I wonder if a Military 3 could be made which was a multi lock? I’d love to see a new Military which has a liner lock, a compression lock, axis lock, cbl lock and back lock. The knife I envision would have a dial or multi position switch discreetly incorporated into the scales allowing toggling betwe...

Re: Show Your Tacos Bloke Dedication Thread !

We’re one of the only shops around (here) that’ll touch stuff like that. We get a lot of imported cruisers and cool old Toyotas Hey Shan, I s’pose with all the flash US made trucks an old Cruiser would be a rarity over there. I used to do all my own maintenance and services on the old truck. They’r...

Re: Show Your Tacos Bloke Dedication Thread !

That's a really cool truck Bloke. That flat bed is awesome. I let my first Taco go when I didn't want to and regretted it for a long time. Finally came back around to one. Still regret letting the first one go. Hey Jeff, she was a bit of a head turner. They’re popular and sort after here but most c...

Re: Show Your Tacos Bloke Dedication Thread !

I drove a 75 Series Toyota Cruiser for over ten years. She was a lovely old truck. The first of the 1HZ engines and I can’t believe I let her go the way I did. The only photo I have of my old truck (parked across the street from our place). https://i.postimg.cc/N0LyGBCt/DAD41-BA8-D3-EC-43-A8-8097-59...

Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)

I’ve always found the great debates on the Mighty Military amusing and often enough hilarious. Now we have two knives with similar names. Mr Glesser has pointed out that the one and only thing the two knives have in common are the screws that hold the scales on. Ah, hahaha! So now in yet another gre...

Re: Military 2 Discussion (Merged)

You guys have a lot more energy than I do. At some point I just accept that people have different preferences than I do and you can try to word your argument 1000 different ways and never see eye to eye. Change is in the air folks. You can't stop the waves of the ocean, but you can learn to surf. :...
